When localizing an eLearning course, there are a number of different file types that need to be considered. These file types are used at different stages of the localization process, and it is important to have a clear understanding of what each file type is used for.

• Text content is typically exported as .docx or .xlf documents to send to the translation team. These documents contain all of the text that needs to be translated, including the course content, instructions, and any other text that appears in the course.

• Images are typically provided in .png or .jpg format. These images may need to be edited in order to accommodate the translated text. For example, if a text label is too long, it may need to be resized or repositioned.

• Videos are typically provided in .MP4 format. These videos may need to be localized by adding subtitles or voiceovers in the target language.

• Audio is typically provided in .mp3 format. This audio may need to be localized by adding voiceovers in the target language.

• The course format itself may also need to be localized. This is typically done by exporting the course in SCORM or xAPI format.
