eLeader November 2024
The other day I went to a psychic (that’s another story!). And an interesting question came up at the end of our session — What if it all works out? Then what?
Most of my time is spent in operations mode, whether that’s fighting fires, problem solving, or executing on what needs to get done. I feel as if I’m in a constant state of ‘in progress,’ working towards goals that continue leveling up. But what if I was able to reach the top of that seemingly endless staircase of goals? Then what?
It's a challenge to envision a state of having it all and what comes after. When you’re in the weeds, it seems impossible to look that far ahead. But what if it was possible? Am I doing things that actually allow myself to have that futuristic perspective and visualize the next stage?
Whether it’s professional or personal, the question remains — If you can have it all, what would that be like?
Recently, I caught up with a founder friend. This entrepreneur shared that he finally started to shift his focus from the shiny startup “things” (accelerators, pitch competitions, etc.) to simply selling. In a short amount of time with this new focus, he’d already sold his first six-figure sale! In a quest for validation, he’s been distracted by a short-sighted view and a switch in bigger picture priorities is now really putting his company on a path for growth.
Sometimes we procrastinate or self-sabotage, even subconsciously, to avoid what feels scary, uncertain, or unknown. Whether it’s reprioritizing to commit to real growth, or asking yourself the tough questions (i.e. Do you really want this?), everything can work out. You may just have to get out of your own way to be uncomfortable, see the bigger picture, and be open to go down the road less traveled.
What does happiness look like for you? What is your personal purpose? How are you standing in your way of everything working out? What is one thing you can do to make sure you’re helping it to all work out?
