ELCA Mauritius prioritizes employee well-being with launch of Health Week
ELCA Mauritius takes its employees' health safety and well-being at work seriously. In the context of World Day for Safety and Health, we are proud to announce that we have kicked off our Health Week. Our employees and colleagues is participating in various screening tests, diagnostic tests, medical consultations, and awareness workshops by medical professionals and road traffic officers this week.
A new cohort of 20 employees attended the initial Basic First Aiders Training delivered by Norman Mayer, an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist and trainer from STAY SAFE CONSULTANCY.
For the safety of all employees, ELCA Mauritius as an employer must provide training to staff to act as First Aiders, whilst waiting for Emergency Services to intervene. As a responsible employer and to be compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 2005, a First Aid training took place in our office.
ELCA Mauritius employees from various departments followed the training, with some attending the mandatory two-day initial session and others participating in a one-day refresher course to maintain their certification.
During these two days, employees learnt how to do the Heimlich Maneuver (unblocking air passage), the recovery position, CPR [Cardiopulmonary resuscitation], the tourniquet, the handling of fractures, and wounds, etc.
Participants were delighted to acquire new skills or being reskilled. They understood their role in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. These first aiders will be able to help their colleagues or even relatives in cases of emergencies.
The First Aiders who participated in the training in the initial training and refresher must do a refresher course every 12 to 24 months to keep their certification.?
