El Pelicano Photovoltaic Plant Celebrates 1545 Days Without An Accident.
Today, El Pelicano Photovoltaic Plant celebrates its 1545th day without an accident.
El Pelicano is a 110 MWp solar park in the Commune of La Higuera in the Coquimbo Region of the Chilean desert. Owned by Actis, it has been operated and maintained by NovaSource Power Services since its entry into service in late 2017.
The team that operates and maintains El Pelicano, on-site and remotely, works under the highest standards of safety and productivity to ensure the operational continuity of the plant and to sustain the plant’s solar assets above a 99% availability guarantee.
In 2020 and 2021, asset availability was measured at 100%.
“I am tremendously proud to be part of such a skilled and tireless multidisciplinary team,” said Site Manager Manuel Robledo. “It’s a real honor to be recognized by our client Actis like this, to have our zero accident rate recognized on a global level.”
“NovaSource encourages and reinforces a culture of self-care at all the plants they operate,” said Christopher Astudillo, Senior Maintenance Engineer at El Pelicano. “NovaSource’s safety practices, on top of the strict base layer safety protocols, have been key in achieving this incredible work safety milestone at El Pelicano.”

Further, the entire staff of NovaSource Power in Latin America has remained free of COVID-19 infection throughout the pandemic, largely thanks to a 100% vaccination rate amongst staff in accordance with the vaccination schedule recommended by competent governments.
“Knowing the entire NovaSource team is vaccinated allows us to feel safe, calm, and concentrated as we work on site,” said Robledo. “But it’s not just the peace of mind that’s important for us and our families—we have a responsibility to stay healthy so we can guarantee the highest possible production of clean energy for all of the families in the region who count on it.”
“Everyone we collaborate with undergoes an extensive safety training process, so safety doesn’t have to be the sole responsibility of my team or any one person,” said Regional Safety and Prevention Manager Ivan Garcia. “We’re all equipped to recognize and stop any actions that represent a potential or obvious danger to our people or the equipment. We’re very proud of the levels of safety and productivity we’ve been able to achieve with this approach.”
El Pelicano generates close to 300 GWh of clean energy per year, equivalent to the consumption of 1,500,000 homes. To date, the plant has generated a total of 1,150 GWh of clean energy for Chile.
The 110 MWp of El Pelicano is among the 1+GWp operated by Novasource Power Services in Latin America and the nearly 20 GWp operated by NovaSource Power Services around the world.
