EL Digest #23 — What newsletters would look like if they were AI-generated

Hello in December!

All the news this month have been stolen by OpenAI's ChatGPT and we're guilty of asking it some of the questions ourselves, but be assured, this newsletter is not autogenerated by any AI and we still write it ourselves.?

Towards the end of the year is when we look back on the good ol' times, and if you're a 90s kid you might actually like?this ?(and if you're young you may be creeped by this, but this is how TV looked like in the 90s). Bless. But you know, some things get better with age, e.g. a handful of?video games mentioned here .

This month, we're coming at you with all the OpenAI news you need to understand the phenomenon, some Twitter shenanigans, and a summary of this weird year in charts, for you nerds out there.

Our beloved Head of Marketing, Ania Robaczewska-Arendt, gives some tips for the new & non-technical Product Owners and Agnieszka M?yńska, our amazing React Native developer, will help you deploy your React Native app to test and not go crazy while you're at it (recommended).

As always, all the best,

EL Passion team

The fall of FTX shocked everyone. Except this guy. (The Atlantic) The world of cryptocurrency is rich with eccentric characters and anonymous Twitter personalities. So perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that one of the early figures who called attention to the problems with Sam Bankman-Fried’s cryptocurrency exchange, FTX, is a 30-year-old Michigan psychiatrist who investigates financial crimes as a hobby.

The good, the bad, the interesting Your AHA-moment stimulation

AI homework (Stratchery) ChatGPT's ease of use and free access makes you think about the possible impact of AI on society. What if AI is wrong (and in some cases it certainly is)? The model is probabilistic, which means that it knows statistically what bits of language go together under different contexts. While it might look like it can do some impressive things, its answers are just probabilistic results generated from the data it was trained on.

ANNA ROBACZEWSKA-ARENDT, Head of Marketing — 5 tips for new and non-technical Product Owners

Anna Robaczewska-Arendt Head of Marketing EL Passion

WHY:?A Product Owner’s non-technicality is not a problem. Their lack of product vision is. Anna is sharing her learnings to help new and non-technical POs on their path.

WHAT:?What’s crucial in a Product?Owner’s role is that: they have a clear vision of the product, they are decisive and focused, and they have motivation.

HOW:?If you want the work to go smoothly, remember that?you need to be the person that makes the final call.?Don’t leave it up to the developers to decide when the feature is ready. You’re the one that knows the needs the product has to fulfill. The developers are usually a bunch of smart people—which often means that they can have tendencies to overcomplicate things. It’s because they want the functionality to cover all possible use case scenarios.?Your role is to cut this short?as you don’t want to end up with an overcomplicated feature. AGNIESZKA M?Y?SKA, React Native Developer — How to deploy your React Native app to test and not go crazy

Agnieszka M?yńska, React Native Developer

WHY:?To develop and?finally?deploy React Native application you need to take a few steps. Think about it like a dish or a cake you want to bake. The end of development is amazing news, but seeing the application in the store is the icing on the cake. So the question is… Where to start and what to do?

HOW: When you develop a mobile application it’s probably not the only part of the system. You also need a backend and maybe a frontend too. These three projects can share some ideas, interfaces, and so on.?To reduce the amount of duplications you can put them in monorepo.

You have your project and detailed instructions, so you know what to do at each step. You use it whenever you need to deploy a new version of your application. But…?why manually execute a set of commands (that don't change), and do it every time, when?this process can be automated?

WHAT: There are many possibilities and different tools to help develop and automate the deployment process. I’ve chosen?Nx monorepo, Fastlane and Github Actions. See how to deploy your React Native app to test in full.

As always, don't hesitate to reach out at [email protected] if you have any feedback for us.

Peace out & see you next year! ????
