Dar E Salaam, Tanzania: Since the rules by the Marquees of Queensberry to govern boxing as one of the potential contact sports were written in the 1800s, the sport of boxing has been notoriously cemented in one area for title tournaments. Boxers fights in their respective area for titles Christianize by the location they are based on.
In 2002, the President of IBF Africa, Middle East & Persian Gulf Onesmo Alfred McBride Ngowi, visited Delray Beach City in the State of Florida in USA as well as Boka Raton City to talk to many African boxers based in the Southern Florida area like West Palm Beach, Boka Raton, Boynton Beach and Fort Lauderdale on how to resolve the problem facing African potential boxers who have migrated seeking greener pasture.
Many of these potential African boxers are disappointed as well as frustrated because they haven’t gained fame or success since they migrated. Some are doing shores or menial works while others get into crimes in order to make their ends meet.
The result of that very first meeting which was then followed by two others in 2004 and 2009 and coordinated by the World Trade Center West Palm Beach (WTCWPB), Florida was the birth of “IBF African Diasporas” or “Sons and Daughters of Africa “Titles.
The first tournament of “IBF African Diasporas” or “Sons and Daughters of Africa” was to take place at the Tennis Stadium in Delray Beach City, Florida, USA in 2010. Organizers of that inaugural tournament cited lack of cooperation from the city fathers of Delray Beach and postponed it to later days.
The realization of this much sought recognition and opportunities for “African Diasporas” or “Sons and Daughters of Africa” would come to light when two of the best African sons, UK based Nigerian Larry Ekundayo meet his Ghanaian counterpart Joseph Lamptey for the first ever “IBF African Diasporas”
The duel has also got blessing from the prestigious and respected Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) as the “Final Elimination” for the “Commonwealth Welterweight Title”. This is a blessing in disguise because the two great organizations are the launch pads and vehicles for many great African boxers to success.
The “IBF African Diasporas” has a potential to transform the lives of African boxers some of who have already lost hopes to advance their careers. It is like the “Dream come True” and it would propel their careers like never before.
The tremendous value of “IBF African Diasporas” will be in promoting boxers profile by increasing both their opportunity for titles and earnings! It is in fact the appeals of many “African Diasporas” boxers many requests that have led us to this unprecedented decision to unveil these titles.
The advent of “IBF Africans Diasporas” will also be giving opportunities to the disadvantage but potential Africans outside the continental so that they can utilize their potential as well as realizing their dreams inside and outside the ring.
That’s what makes “IBF” as a real top-gun boxing organization the world for the way it operates and discharges its duties. IBF’s tentacles are spread all over the place from the ring to the communities around it and the men and women who fights for its titles as well as those who attempt to fight for its titles.
