Completing medical school among the best 5 graduates in 2018, coupled with my leadership experience and community work I was confident I will be the ideal candidate for any competitive scholarship. Little did I know what was ahead was almost half a decade of rejections from over a dozen scholarship bodies & Universities.

???????? ???? ?????????? ???????????????? ?????? ???? - ???????? ???? ???? ?????????? ???? ??????????????.

Towards the end of 2018, I started writing my applications for the Chevening, Commonwealth, Erasmus, Fulbright, ARES… each year I received a rejection.?

The most hurting part was colleagues with whom we applied together, those for whom I assisted in drafting their essays got selected over the years. But, every year about this time I’ll receive the famous line?

“????????? ?????? ?????? ???????? ?????????????????????? ?????? ??????? ????????????????????, ?????? ?????? ????? ???????? ?????????? ???????????? ????? ?????????????????????? ?????????????? ???? ???????????? ???? ?????? ?????? ???????? ?????? ????????????????. ?????????????? ???? ????? ?????????????????????? ???????????? ???? ????? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???? ???????????????? ????????????????? ???? ???????????????????????? ???? ??????’?? ???????? ???????????????????????? ????????????????…”

I had memorized this rhetoric from all of them, so much so that when I heard the words “thank you”, I felt upset.

2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 passed and my application folder piled up to 1.2GB of documents…?

Each time I got rejected I learnt something in the process. I took courses on creative & effective writing, storytelling, and academic writing. I kept volunteering, kept working to impact - I kept building myself.?

Seeing me out there you’ll never know the struggles within. However, this diversity created rumours that he was lost. Again, I was focused on being a better me and kept at it year after year…There were days I felt like giving up.

I paid experts to review my essays, and my CV and every time I’ll hear “you’re the best candidate I’ve read so far.” But again - thank you rejection will follow.

However, I never gave up. I had a strong belief that someday my dream will be lived.?

Towards the end of 2021 I started all over again applying for every scholarship I heard of and 2022 started with a handful of rejections not until I got admissions and scholarships to the World’s Best universities.

Today studying within the walls of the World’s Best University ( 英国牛津大学 ); what this citadel of learning is starting for the first time, confirms my love for uncharted waters.?

This year I’ll be studying the MSc in Applied Digital Health at the Nuffield Department of Primary care Science, Oxford University. I want to improve healthcare using technologically driven solutions informed by context-specific research!

As part of the maiden class for this multifaceted and multidisciplinary course, I look forward to a future laden with opportunities and impact. Here’s my story, from a dream, I have worked every step of the way to get here! The next chapter is pregnant with a lot of learnings (I prefer not to call them challenges).

Today I stand to represent the Oku ethnic group, Cameroon and Africa. My Alma mater the Faculty of Health Sciences University of Buea , Saint Francis College, Kumba and above all my humble family.?
