Ek Goli Ek Dushman
"EK GOLI EK DUSHMAN" were the lines I saw written on the wall when I first aimed at the target in shooting range with my .22mm rifle in the Combined Annual Training Camp. I felt like those words were carved in my brain as I saw them, though short but they explained down the deep importance and seriousness of each bullet that leaves your Gun. It all started when I was in my 7th standard. I was sitting in my classroom when I happened to hear voices. I was curious enough to peep through the window when I had a glance over a few people standing still and shouting. It was a week before the 15th of August and the practice for the March-Past was going on. I could not get a clear view, but I heard these voices every day until the 15th of August finally arrived. As my curiosity grew, I was eagerly awaiting for the Cadets in Uniform to perform the drill. That is when my mind stuck with amazement, my spine chills down as I see the cadets in uniform marching towards me. It is then when I decided to take up NCC.
I joined the NCC in the 8th standard as a JW (Junior Wing Cadet). I had to wait for one long year to be a part of the firing team. I had this amazing opportunity to take part in TSC (Thal Sainik Camp- 2013). Every day we used to start at 6.00 Am and travel 15km to reach the firing range at our directorate (then Andhra Pradesh) for firing practice. I slowly made my way from battalion to group and from group to directorate (State). Everything was going right until then; I came to know that our team could not make it to the finals and cannot go to Delhi where ultimately the cadets represent his Directorate on a National stage. Everything shattered at that very moment. My dream of wearing my directorate blazer and honor came to an end. I was so depressed that I could not attend school for a week. All alone I was sitting idle and used to think 'why?'. As a 13 years old girl it was very hard to take. After 4 years I came to Lovely Professional University in Punjab for my graduation where I found out I can opt for NCC. Without a wait, I filled my application for NCC, and fortunately, I cleared all the tests (Physical, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview) and joined the National Cadet Corps as an SW (Senior Wing Cadet) in 2017. I knew this is the time to fulfill my unaccomplished dream. I worked twice as hard as I could. After 6 years, in 2019 I attended All INDIA THAL SAINIK CAMP(TSC), at Delhi representing Punjab directorate. Our day started around 4 Am and ended around 9 pm. The Obstacles, Firing, Map Reading what not, TSC gives you an overall development from testing your IQ to performance on the ground. Our three months of rigorous training were all put to test when we attended Thal Sainik Camp at Delhi and I was the head girl of my directorate. I was honored with the 'Flag of Appreciation' from the Directorate General Rajeev Chopra. I failed as a cadet in 2013 but won as a cadet in 2019. All this had drawn me to the conclusion that we should never bow down to failures. Your life always keeps the best chances, the best opportunities awaited. All you need is your willpower and high sprit and this motivation will remain in me forever.
