"A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness." - Albert Einstein ?

These wise words from Einstein have never resonated with me more than they do now. The IT industry, while exciting and full of opportunities, is notorious for its fast-paced nature and demanding work culture. As someone who recently completed my second Post Graduate Certificate in Canada, I can attest to the challenges of balancing intense studies with the pressures of the professional world.

Escaping the Concrete Jungle

Just last week, I decided to take a much-needed break. I escaped the concrete jungle of downtown Toronto, leaving my laptop behind. It was just me, myself, and a well-deserved respite from the digital world. This offline week turned out to be my most relaxed time in ages. I reconnected with my favorite shows, enjoyed long walks, and most importantly, experienced the most restful sleep I've had in a long time.

Sometimes, the best way to thrive is to step back and appreciate the view.

The Need for Balance

2024 has been a year of self-discovery for me. Amidst the relentless pursuit of success in the IT field, I've come to realize the critical importance of balance. I've rekindled my love for swimming, an activity that brings me joy and helps me de-stress. It also reminded me of the thrill of freediving, an experience I first had back home in the Philippines in 2022.

These moments of reflection have underscored a powerful truth: in a field where burnout is all too common, taking a breather isn't just a luxury—it's a necessity. No career achievement, no matter how impressive, is worth sacrificing your well-being for.

When the tech world gets too hot, I dive into the cool blue. With every stroke, the burnout fades away.

From Surviving to Thriving

It's time to redefine our journey in this fast-paced industry. Instead of merely "surviving," let's focus on "thriving." Continuous learning is undoubtedly key, but so is taking time to recharge and enjoy life.

Don't let the hustle and bustle distract you from what truly matters. Embrace calmness and find happiness in the present moment. Let's create a path that leads not just to success, but also to fulfillment and well-being.

Remember, true wealth lies not just in professional achievements, but also in the moments we cherish and the health we maintain.

Let's strive for a balanced and fulfilling life in the tech world. After all, as Einstein wisely noted, a calm and modest life can bring more happiness than the relentless pursuit of success.
