The Eightfold Take - December 2024

The Eightfold Take - December 2024

It's time to align and shine

Recently, we conducted a survey of 500 HR executives revealing a huge misalignment between talent and business strategies in many organizations. Only 18% of HR leaders told us that they’re fully aligned across the business in three key areas: business strategy development, C-suite collaboration, and talent strategy alignment.?

For talent leaders navigating change, working reactively with limited visibility is a barrier to true transformation. Proactive approaches are increasingly required, but it’s impossible to solve for what you can’t see. Talent intelligence can help bring things into focus for leaders to address challenges and engage with greater agility around evolving and future business needs.

The skills opportunity

We know that understanding workforce skills is essential for meeting business objectives, with 40% of HR leaders prioritizing it, second only to talent retention. However, despite its impact, only a little over half see analyzing talent networks’ skill makeups as a priority, and only 66% prioritize cross-training or upskilling. HR leaders can feel overwhelmed, trying to figure out where to start, and “upskilling” or “reskilling” an organization is easier said than done.?

To stay competitive, skills need to be a priority—this empowers organizations to align talent where it is most needed and adapt to evolving business demands with greater agility. For more on this, you’ll want to read our latest talent survey, which takes an in-depth look at the power of skills to deepen your talent bench, or join our December Talent Table webinar with Dylan Teggart , Principal Analyst at 3Sixty Insights , where we’ll be discussing the results.

Misalignment with employee needs is costing you talent

While 75% of HR leaders feel confident that they’re providing the tools employees need to grow, a surprising 82% of employees are actively looking for new jobs. This misalignment highlights a critical gap: are we truly understanding our people’s unique skills, career goals, and aspirations??

To retain talent, HR needs to do more than just provide resources—they must align with employees’ ambitions and create pathways that match where employees want to go.?

Our latest talent survey dives deeper into this and other disconnects, uncovering why employees are searching for opportunities elsewhere and offering actionable insights to bridge this gap. Discover how to create a culture where talent can truly thrive.

The opportunity for AI to bring it all together

In our talent survey, 96% of global companies reported using or planning to use AI, with 67% reporting high satisfaction with the current tools they’re using and planning to invest even more in AI tech. While AI offers opportunities for workforce planning, many organizations are focusing on enhancing existing processes instead of adopting new technologies for future needs.?

To harness AI's full potential, organizations must fully understand the skills within their workforces, enabling better alignment of talent to business goals. Powered by AI, skills intelligence provides real-time insights into employee capabilities and organizational needs. At the same time, it’s critical to ensure responsible AI use to address concerns about privacy, compliance, and bias.

Jason Cerrato interesting survey. Alarming on the 18% alignment. That could be a much slower adoption rate of AI and skill-based hiring in the future. That's concerning considering the critical talent shortages across the board. Could it be that HR is still viewed as a tactical function instead of strategic partner?
