The Crisis of Mental Health in Pakistan: An In-Depth Analysis.

1 .Worthy audience, before we proceed ahead let us be clear that our own leadership & people are responsible for poorman's devastation but Mullah ,Military &Malkane Hukumat deny this .Some call it Israel ploy ,some blame America, some Imran Khan ,but mostly people say it is Gen Bajwa & Faiz Hamid,MIlitary says India &Afghanistan,no body says It is ruling Elites who created man made crisis to grind people alive in the cogs of Machines of MAHANGAI.Folks it was awfully traumatizing to hear that on the most lionized Day of 6 September 2024 instead of passing any verdict against terrorism or in favor of Military Courts trial, worthy, CJ Supreme Courts FAIZ ISA has given a landmark verdict to open the way of mega corruption by allowing Amendments in the NAB Ordinance 1999. Most ugly part is that allowing up to 25 crore corruption out of Jurisdiction of the NAB, besides hurling rubbish against Gen Pervez Musharraf who made the Ordinance as well as bullied Imran Khan for opposing PDM-II /most corrupt Imported Regime bastard's long aspired desire of amendment in NAB Ordinance through Amendment Bill. Folks what worst could be our identity or state of credibility when :-

  • Out of 24 crore of total population ,8 Crores are Psychic, Elites are 160th in the World in civilized behavior /honesty, rest of them are ferocious killers brutal rapist ,pitiless criminals, doppers &hurtles terrorist (involved in internal /external sabotage),remaining are destitute / impoverished.
  • Once you looted &lost everything and having zero respect & credibility in the eyes of people ,how funny it looks that still expecting loyalty, obedince , unity, faith, discipline, sacrifice, peace & honest tax paying, what a ludicrous it looks "RABBT QAYAM RABBTE MILLAT SE HE TANHA KUCH NANI? Oh the filthiest rulers die of shame, this called absolute & orthodoxical bluffing of 19th century or "DAY DREAMING".
  • Nobody gets alarm, worried or moved on shameful defeat of Pakistan Cricket Team at the hands of Bangladesh (Main Reasons selfishness, stubborn attitude of seniors & lack of practice Pathan /Punjabi Lobby). No one will say take action against culprit if Faiz Hameed /Musharrah can be punished why not Babar Azam) because politician & others are most corrupt, whereas ?judiciary demeans police, and police/mafias /Landlords harbor criminals & rented criminals. Army says we are apolitical & terribly throws their culprit under the buss, whereas 90 % victims of rape /brutality & divorce do not report to the police /courts since they know it is they who will suffer. So the entire family gets psychic
  • Our Media shows opera full of violence, over reacting parents &obnoxious relations b/w girl & boy, maid & master, Landlord & the TAWAIF, Doctor & Patient bla, bka, bla? What a culture?
  • Most objectionable/notorious Maulana is Chairman Ullema Committee, how painful to see such optics, where the man exert his influence with enormous authentic powers.(MAULANA MERA MUUN NA KHUWANA)
  • Chronic Criminals are ruling, majority of ministers openly say Army is deeply involved in corruption ( Rubbish), Bajwa is Game Changers & leading Mafias ?Musharraf is traitor ,Army shows DG ISI Lt Gen? ?Faiz Hameed ?involvement in anti-state activities & recorded corruption, KACHHA KA DO}KU run his own YouTube bloggers post in the? name eradication of poverty as if his killing of over forty policemen & injuring dozens others last month is justified? Why should they (Bandits of all kind) be scared & why should Politicians ?care for Nation Action Plan?.
  • Folks these are just minor glimpses of our horrible plight. Why people should not get psychic under such fears of uncertainty, threat to survival & despair. We leave it here & let us come over main topic as follows.?
  • 1. .Worthy audience no doubt Pakistan is a country grappling with numerous socio-economic, corruption, governance, justice, political stability ?& immense security challenges, above all the mental health crisis in Pakistan is being flashed in the Parliament through alarming statistics shown by probably mindless Minister of Health or may be a new stint to open new source of LOOT SALE. The Ministry of Health's recent presentation to the National Assembly highlighted the severe inadequacy of mental health services. Recent data indicates that over 80 million people (8 crore 33 % of the population) in Pakistan are suffering from psychological issues, a stark reflection of the broader issues affecting the nation’s mental health landscape, appallingly/shamefully with only 4 major mental healthcare facilities serving a population of over 240 million, and a woefully low number of mental health professionals just 0.19 psychiatrists per 100,000 residents—access to proper mental health care remains a significant issue. The shortage of mental health professionals is a critical factor contributing to the crisis. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Pakistan's mental health workforce is among the lowest in the world. This shortage means that many individuals with mental health conditions do not receive even the elementary treatment, leading to a further exacerbation of their conditions. his article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the mental health crisis in Pakistan, exploring its root causes, the institutional response, and potential solutions.

2??? .Cultural and Societal Factors. As follows:-

  • Cultural Beliefs and Stigmatization. Cultural beliefs play a significant role in shaping attitudes toward mental health in Pakistan. In many rural areas, mental illness is often attributed to supernatural influences, such as black magic or the evil eye. This cultural perspective leads many individuals to seek help from spiritual healers rather than medical professionals. The reliance on traditional healing practices not only delays proper diagnosis but also prevents many from accessing effective treatment. Stigmatization is another major issue. Mental health conditions are often viewed through a lens of superstition and fear. Individuals with psychological disorders may be shunned, and their conditions may be perceived as contagious or a sign of moral failing. This stigma not only discourages individuals from seeking help but also perpetuates misinformation and discrimination against those with mental health issues.
  • Mental Health Myths and Misconceptions. In Pakistan, several myths about mental illness contribute to the stigma surrounding it. For instance, there is a belief mental disorders are contagious, which means that people fear interacting with those who are mentally ill. Additionally, individuals with psychosis are often perceived as violent or dangerous, leading to further social exclusion. Another prevalent myth is the belief that visiting shrines or engaging in religious rituals is a suitable treatment for mental health issues. While faith and spirituality can play a supportive role in mental well-being, relying solely on these practices can prevent individuals from receiving evidence-based medical care.

3.? Economic and Social Influences. As under:-

  • Unemployment and Economic Hardship. Economic factors significantly impact mental health in Pakistan. The country faces high levels of unemployment and poverty, which create environments of stress and insecurity. With an illiteracy rate of around 60%, many individuals struggle to find stable employment or to earn a sufficient income. The job market's complexity and the low pay offered for many positions contribute to a pervasive sense of financial instability. Unemployment is particularly challenging for the youth. Many young people face barriers to finding jobs despite being educated. They are often required to have years of experience, which is unrealistic for recent graduates. Even when employed, they frequently face poor working conditions and low wages, leading to frustration and mental health issues.
  • Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on mental health worldwide, and Pakistan is no exception. The pandemic has led to job losses, financial instability, and increased stress due to health concerns and uncertainty. Many people have experienced the loss of loved ones or witnessed suffering, which has exacerbated existing mental health conditions. The uncertainty surrounding the pandemic has also contributed to heightened anxiety and depression. The fear of illness, combined with the economic fallout, has created a pervasive sense of hopelessness. Despite efforts to manage physical health risks, mental well-being has often been neglected, leading to a worsening of psychological issues.

4??? .Specific Issues and Demographic Impacts. As follows:-

  • Gender-Specific Challenges. Women in Pakistan face unique challenges that significantly impact their mental health. Sexual harassment is a pervasive issue, with many women experiencing exploitation and unsafe environments. This harassment can occur in various settings, including workplaces, educational institutions, and public spaces. Gender discrimination extends beyond harassment. Women often face barriers to education and employment, which can lead to economic dependence and psychological distress. Additionally, societal expectations and pressures regarding marriage and family life can create additional stress and mental health issues.
  • Youth and Academic Pressure. Young people in Pakistan are particularly vulnerable to mental health issues due to academic pressure and unemployment. The education system often places high expectations on students, leading to stress and anxiety. Parental pressure to pursue certain careers or academic paths can further exacerbate these issues. The job market’s challenges also impact youth mental health. Many young people face difficulty finding employment despite their education. This gap between education and employment opportunities can lead to frustration and a sense of hopelessness.
  • Child Labor and Its Impact. Child labor is a significant issue in Pakistan, driven by socio-economic conditions. Many children are forced into labor to support their families, which has severe implications for their mental health. The harsh working conditions and lack of access to education hinder their psycho-social development and contribute to long-term psychological trauma.
  • Poor Academic Achievement and Career Pressure. Academic pressure and career expectations contribute to mental health issues among students. In Pakistan, parents often dictate career choices for their children, leading them to pursue fields that do not align with their interests or strengths. This misalignment can result in poor academic performance, which in turn leads to depression and anxiety.
  • Genetic and Familial Factors. Genetics and family history also play a role in mental health. Mental illnesses can run in families, meaning that individuals with a family history of psychological disorders may be at higher risk. The interaction between genetics and environmental factors is complex and can influence the development of mental health conditions.
  • Drug Use and Addiction. The use of drugs and alcohol is a growing concern in Pakistan, particularly among the youth. Many individuals turn to drugs as a form of escape from their problems, believing that substances can provide temporary relief. However, drug use often leads to long-term psychological issues and addiction.

6?? .Institutional Response and Challenges. As under:-

  • Government Initiatives and Policy. The Pakistani government has taken some steps to address mental health issues, but these efforts have been insufficient. There have been initiatives to increase mental health awareness and integrate mental health services into primary healthcare. However, these efforts often lack the necessary resources and comprehensive planning to be effective.
  • Healthcare Infrastructure. The healthcare infrastructure for mental health in Pakistan is severely lacking. There are very few mental health facilities relative to the population size, and those that exist often lack the necessary resources and trained personnel. The limited availability of mental health services means that many individuals with psychological issues do not receive the care they need.
  • Public Awareness and Education. Public awareness and education about mental health are crucial for addressing the crisis. There is a need for widespread campaigns to reduce stigma and educate people about mental health issues. Schools and community organizations can play a vital role in promoting mental health literacy and encouraging individuals to seek help.

7?? .Treatment and Support. As follows:-

  • Medical and Therapeutic Interventions. Effective treatment for mental health issues in Pakistan involves a combination of medication and therapy. Common interventions include:
  • Anti-anxiety Medications: These medications help manage symptoms of anxiety and panic disorders.
  • Antidepressants: Used to treat depression and related mood disorders.
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A type of psychotherapy that helps individuals understand and change negative thought patterns.
  • Family Therapy: Involves working with families to improve communication and support for individuals with mental health issues.
  • Group Therapy: Provides a supportive environment where individuals can share their experiences and receive feedback from others.
  • Support Groups and Community Resources. Support groups and community resources can provide valuable assistance for individuals with mental health issues. These groups offer a space for individuals to connect with others facing similar challenges and receive emotional support. Community organizations can also provide resources and referrals to mental health services.
  • Countless Unearth cases of Children & Adults Rape forcibly.
  • Sense Of deprivation & Horrendous MAHANGAI?
  • Police failure to Control Lawlessness & Crime rather they are mostly scared of Criminals who are sheltered by Mafias & Politicians so people remain under extreme duress & mental tension about there tomorrow?
  • Very honestly taking Islam only for self aggrandisement & fraudulent PIR MURIDDI that is to say biggest source of providing illicit children with mesmerizing of women for want of child since her in laws are making her life miserable ,likewise weaving a net of superstition around on pir sahib order & in turn expecting fraud pir baba would be repelling all evils of the victim? What a country or cross country?
  • Using adulterated food stuff & fake medicines like painkiller injections & steroids thus spoiling liver, kidney & other vital organs with massive doping of ICE or any other narcotics or drugs?Folks ICE is erotica or better than viagra in satanic action but it takes away sleep & give terrible erection to.........later it make a patient either suicidal or psychic or rented killer?
  • Self oriented life style & no social coherence of either family or society.Massive Urbanization & tasking preservant rich/excessive sugar rich beverages & foods.
  • Taking rape as remedy of HIV or a cheap entertainment or revenge taking.
  • Fast increasing rate of polygamy, separation, divorce, flurting & spouse lack of understanding, resulting in death of wife/husband or the strong urge of having a Child by the family & society soon after marriage & not having baby boy & similar other issues pertaining to women religious /social rights?

8?? .Conclusion .The mental health crisis in Pakistan is a complex issue with deep-rooted cultural, economic, and social factors deepening with manmade issues/difficulties & blunders.. Addressing this crisis requires a multifaceted approach, including improving mental health services, reducing stigma, having competent & honest rulers and promoting public awareness.
