Eid Mubarak

Eid Mubarak

As we approach the end of Ramadan this year, it can be useful to reflect on how we at Skillfinder have been able to help our Islamic colleagues as they observe their religious obligations, whilst still being able to help their clients and candidates reach their objectives in finding new opportunities across new projects globally. (Fasting through the longer days of spring, whilst remaining positive and enthusiastic can be challenging to say the least)

Noushin Bhuiyan reflects on the highs and lows of delivering a demanding recruitment service throughout Ramadan this year:

In Islamic culture, Ramadan is the holiest month. It's a month dedicated to spiritual discipline and a reminder of the things we should be grateful for, but sometimes overlook (like food and water). It's a month to continue to develop good habits, to be nice to one another, and to be charitable.?

Ramadan is an excellent opportunity to think about how our behaviours influence others. For example, in an era of aggressive tweeting, everyone feels qualified to express their thoughts on any topic in the history of the planet. Worse, we tend to broadcast these viewpoints over the internet without considering how they will be received by others.??

I am not suggesting you turn off social media (though it wouldn't hurt) or remain silent during in-person interactions, but perhaps we should all attempt to create some space before responding, think a little more before speaking (or tweeting), moderating our viewpoint and learn to reflect on another’s point of view.?

We have a rich, diverse workforce at Skillfinder, and they actively take measures to celebrate our diversity, accepting different cultures, opinions, and points of view.?

How did Skillfinder help me during Ramadan??

I was encouraged to speak to my managers about how they could support me to make it easier for me to work during Ramadan. Ramadan isn’t only about not eating or drinking during the day. It usually means waking up early, eating late, taking part in charities, and late-night prayers.?

What Skillfinder did to help me is they adjusted my working hours and made it more flexible.?

Noushin Bhuiyan - Recruitment Consultant

As we begin celebrating Eid ul-Fitr (“the feast of breaking the fast” - the celebration that begins as Ramadan ends) we give thanks for the time spent in reflection, for the gratitude we feel towards those that help us along the way and for a sense of renewal and optimism, having taken the space to recentre our souls.
