Eid Mubarak

Eid Mubarak

As we celebrate Eid here in Dubai and the holidays for many of you, I wanted to share some insights on how to navigate this festive season without sabotaging your health goals.

Here are some common mistakes overeaters tend to make during holidays and festive seasons, along with strategies to make your celebrations more enjoyable:

1) Skipping meals

Many of us fall into the trap of skipping meals in anticipation of indulging later. However, this often leads to constant snacking and overeating. Instead, prioritize eating meals at regular intervals, especially breakfast, to keep your hunger in check and prevent overindulgence.

Here are few benefits of eating meals at regular intervals

  • Your stomach is fuller throughout the day
  • You will not be tempted by constant snacking because you’re full
  • You will be able to refrain from overeating because you know you are eating again in four hours
  • You are calmer and less obsessed about food
  • You are more likely eating real food rather than tons of sugar, flour and fat, and as a result you will crave less

2) Focusing solely on food

Holiday gatherings are often centered around food, but shifting your focus to social engagement can bring greater fulfillment.

Imagine yourself at a gathering surrounded by family, friends or loved ones. Instead of fixating on the buffet table laden with tempting treats, picture yourself engaging in meaningful conversations, laughing wholeheartedly, and connecting deeply with the people around you. See yourself immersed in the joy of shared experiences, bonding over shared memories, and building stronger connections with others. Visualize the warmth and camaraderie that comes from being fully present in the moment, cherishing each interaction and savoring the richness of human connection

3) Neglecting rest

Amidst the holiday chaos, it's essential to prioritize rest and relaxation.

  • Find your quiet corner

Amidst the cheerful chaos and festive celebrations, envision a serene corner at a busy gathering, party, airport or mall. See yourself gently stepping away from the crowd and retreating into this cozy spot. Sink into a soft chair, feel the calm wash over you, and let the noise fade into the background. Take a moment to breathe deeply, inhaling serenity and exhaling tension. Embrace this quiet respite, allowing yourself to recharge and reconnect with yourself.

  • Carve out alone time and prioritize sleep to recharge

Imagine yourself amidst the holiday hustle and bustle, with tasks piling up and schedules packed to the brim. In the midst of this chaos, visualize carving out a precious moment just for yourself. See yourself cocooned in a cozy blanket, with soft pillows cradling you as you sink into a state of relaxation. Feel the gentle rhythm of your breath as you let go of the day's stressors and allow yourself to drift into a peaceful slumber. Visualize waking up refreshed and rejuvenated, ready to tackle the holiday festivities with renewed energy and clarity.
