According to Alaa Farouk, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Egypt’s agricultural exports are reaching new heights, with over 6.9 million tons shipped from January to mid-October 2024.
This impressive growth has generated approximately USD 4.04 billion (EGP 196.3 billion) in revenue, a year-on-year increase of nearly USD 1 billion. It’s a promising indicator of Egypt’s potential in global agricultural markets, but even more, it’s a step toward lasting economic growth.
?Egypt’s top exports this year include citrus fruits, potatoes, and onions. Citrus alone accounted for over 2.27 million tons, fresh potatoes reached 973,130 tons, and onions followed with 281,785 tons.
?But it’s not only about these leading products; Egypt’s agricultural exports showcase remarkable diversity with products like beans, grapes, sweet potatoes, mangoes, and pomegranates reaching tables worldwide.
?A national target has been set: Egypt aims to boost agricultural export revenues to USD 9.2 billion (EGP 446.2 billion) by year-end.
?This goal includes USD 4.2 billion (EGP 203.9 billion) from fresh exports and USD 5 billion (EGP 242.9 billion) from processed and frozen goods, reinforcing Egypt’s ambition to expand its reach in international markets and drive economic progress.
?However, long-term success in Egypt’s agricultural sector cannot rely on quantity alone, it must focus on quality standards. Egypt Currently exports to over 165 countries, particularly in Europe, the Gulf, Africa, and America,
?To maintain this presence and open doors to even more markets, it’s essential to elevate the quality of our exports to meet international standards, thus, high-quality agricultural products are what today’s global consumers demand, and meeting these expectations can solidify Egypt’s reputation on the world stage.
