Ego hardly accepts the truth

We all agree that since our birth we are programmed to think what our parents and others around us like our siblings adopt their beliefs and values. These ideas become embedded in our brains and can never be completely removed or replaced. This is the reason there is religions demand access to children as young as possible for like the proverb 'Give us a child until he is five and he is ours for life.' Now what does this mean really in life?

This is precisely the reason that when confronted with facts that don’t conform to our value system and beliefs, people find it difficult or impossible to digest them. It not only takes too much effort to change ideas, but also can also arouse intense feelings of guilt, so they believe those who agree with them and ignore the others. This is the formation of ego in the mind. A better way to reveal a truth to someone therefore is to slowly educate someone because you can't just shove the truth down their throats. This way they have time to come to terms with who they are, and won't have that identity crisis.

Essentially, all humans by nature are biased or closed-minded, which acts as a kind of emotional filter of protection. The more a truth is outside the bias of a person, the harder it is for them to emotionally adjust. This might sound surprising, but going through the process of accepting truth requires them to go through the 'act of denial', and if completed, ends with acceptance of the truth. Unfortunately, many people get to acceptance, because they perceive the given truth as being to painful.

The capacity to see the proclaimed truth, as it is communicated, or clearly made evident, amongst those whom it concerns and therefore we could further argue that that’s just the way it works. Because humans are sometimes also ignorant, by choice and by circumstances. Winston Churchill said, “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.”

Thus, when knowledge is not based on truth, it is based on what we observe through our five sense. This is our justification for all knowledge, and our observations can be good or bad and therefore conclusions we reach based on them can be good or bad. Let us admit that our ego is not a trait, it is actually about your existence. It is the level of importance you give to your self respect in smallest and toughest of situations.

Even if you don't have ego, people will be more than happy to use you like a tissue or a punching bag to vent out all frustrations on you. But the catch here is that too much ego creates narcissism. You will start getting hurt by almost anything except appreciation, which will scare away people. Ego needs to be fed with validation and approval all the time, not only from one's own self but also from the people around. Else, it begins to weaken and hence it can't face the truth face to face. Cheers!
