Egis design bridges with Style ! Episode 8
Episode 8 : Cable-Stayed Bridges in South America
Santo Amaro Train Station Bridge in Sao Paulo
Between 1998 and 2002, Egis Bridge Departement (formely JMI) in partnership with Studio DE MIRANDA and Logos Engenharia, realized the conceptual, preliminary, detailed design, shop drawings and technical assistance on site for the Cable-stayed bridge over the Pinheiros River including the Santo Amaro metro station on the new double-track urban train line. The deck suspension consists of a single axial semi-harp cable layer from a unique tower. The prestressed concrete deck comprises a box girder and precast triangular trusses to support the train tracks. The foundations of the 53-metre high tower are made of box-well, driven in the bed rock by compressed air. The bridge was built by cantilever in 6.50 metre segments. The 13.5 metre wide prestressed ribbed deck slab has a total length of 225 metres. The main span is 110 m.

Las Americas Bridge in La Paz
Ten years before, Egis also designed acable-stayed bridge in La Paz (Bolivia) : Puente de Las Americas. A Single prestressed slab cast in place. Length of 225 m, spans of 57.5 m – 110 – 57.5 m. 2 pylons of 28 m above the deck and 4 piers of 2.25 m. The deck is longitudinally post-tensioned by two groups of 9 x 15 mm diameter strand tendons. transversely, the deck has only passive reinforcement; a?transverse 9 x 15 mm diameter strand tendon is placed every 10 m at the cable-stay anchorage to accommodate the load transfer from stay to deck.
An article was published about this bridge during the International Conference IABSE-FIP:?Cable-stayed and suspension bridges, Deauville, France, 12-15 October 1994. More information here.
