Effort.... Not Perfection.

Effort.... Not Perfection.

Effort.... not Perfection.

Let's go and welcome to the Jonathan Darling Podcast. I am your host; Jonathan Darling and I am so incredibly excited to be here with you today.

What I wanted to kind of set the tone with is this idea of effort not perfection. ?I think often times we can get ourselves into this situation, to where we believe that we have to be perfect in order to do things.?That we don't want to mess up. We don't want to make mistakes because we want to be the best at what we do, but not only just be the best at what we do, but we don't want to hear it from the critics if something doesn't go well.

I want to share a story with you.?I don't have a hundred percent knowledge of whether or not it's true, but I've heard it several times and wanted to share it with you.

Albert Einstein was teaching a class and he was doing some numerical equations.

9x1= 9

9x2=18

9x3=27

Etc.…

He wrote 9x10=91 on the board and all of the students started laughing because the answer was obviously wrong. Albert looked at his class and he waited until they stopped laughing.

He said, “I got nine out of 10 mathematical equations correct, yet nobody cheered for me.?No one encouraged me or applauded me for those first nine.?I got one wrong and you all laughed at me.” ?

He continued, “What this should show you is that it doesn't matter how successful you are, that one time you make a mistake, people are only going to notice the mistake.”

“But if you aren’t making mistakes… you aren’t doing anything new.”

I think that's incredibly important.?Oftentimes we can get bogged down in this need to be perfect. I talked to my kids and the kids I coach, that it’s not about perfection…. it’s about effort.

What energy are you putting towards the activity that you're doing? We can give effort in everything that we do.

So what type of effort are you putting in?

It doesn't need to be perfect. Perfection is a myth.

Nothing will ever be perfect.

There was only one man who was ever perfect in this world. And that was Jesus.

The idea that we can be perfect is an illusion.?What we can do is give effort to be our best.?We can give effort and be our best understanding that even when we can still make mistakes.

But we can't fear those mistakes.

We can no longer be paralyzed by this idea of not being perfect or this idea of making mistakes.

All of that is a myth that keeps you from going out and striving towards the goals, the dreams and the visions that you have for your life.?

If you believe if you're not good enough when you're not perfect, then you're never going to make it. That’s just not true! ?Successful people oftentimes will say that they fail more than they've ever succeeded. Michael Jordan says that he has missed more game winning shots than he's made, but he keeps shooting. Wayne Gretzky says the only shot that you will miss is the one that you don't ever take.

And so I think it's really important that we understand that we're going to make mistakes. Even the best of us. There's going to be times in our life when things aren't perfect and that's absolutely okay.

That's what matters. That's what matters. It's not the naysayer. It's not the judger. It's not the one in the stands who never does anything who never takes that risk, or takes that leap, or the one who never chases that dream.

Their opinions don’t matter.

So if you're not failing you’re not doing anything. If you're not failing, you're not putting in the effort to accomplish what it is that you're trying to accomplish. If you're not failing, then you're not putting yourself in a place of discomfort to do something new.

And no matter what you do. The moment you make a mistake, people are going to point it out.

Ignore them.

Don't let it be an anchor that weighs you down. Don't let it be an anchor that keeps you fixed where you.

That's not where you want to be.

You don't need to be perfect. You just need to give effort.

Your effort will the fuel that drives you for more.

I hope you have an incredible day. I hope this is a day that you choose to put in the effort towards the things that matter most.

The things that make an impact, the things that impact your family, the impact, the people around you in a positive way.

I hope that today you take that step to go out and to love, lead and inspire those around you. Because you were created for greatness, you were created to make an impact.

I love you.

Fear is obviously a factor when trying to be perfect and the pride of life. I used to have fear and it used to have me. It used to be my friend too. But no more thank you Jesus! Perfection will always that brass ring, the glass ceiling which all comes down to the pride of life. There are plenty of plenty who are happy with the less instead of more. After all, does perfection really matter when a person is dying? God blessed me to come out of materialism and the pride of life because I used to believe at one point in my life that it mattered. Now, I'm content in any state, thanks to Yeshua. The effort I give coupled with sacrifice is my service to God, husband, family, mankind. Thank you for this article.
