Effort Needs No Talent!

In November of 2022, I found myself facing a storm of my own. After just five months in a job I thought would define my career, I made a decision that sent ripples of doubt through my life—I resigned. The reasons were as valid as they were personal, as health constraints forced me to seek a new path. Little did I know that this moment of darkness would soon transform into the brightest chapter of my professional journey, as I stumbled upon the naked truth that would forever change my perception: "You will learn on the job."

In the aftermath of my resignation, I felt lost, adrift in a sea of career ambiguity with no compass to guide me. Depression clouded my life, and I grappled with a lack of clarity, unsure of what direction to take. But in the depths of this darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged in January 2023, like a beacon drawing me towards my destiny.

That glimmer came in the form of Generation Kenya , an NGO with a revolutionary mission—to eradicate unemployment among youths. Intrigued and hopeful, I eagerly grasped the lifeline they offered—the Freelance-Admin Support Program. Little did I know that this leap of faith would set me on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, one that would lead me to embrace the notion that growth happens when we step beyond the boundaries of our perceived qualifications.

As I delved into the program, I found myself captivated by a mantra that would become my guiding light—"Be the Force to Reckon With: Dare to Dream, Disrupt, and Make Your Mark." With those words imprinted on my soul, I began to understand that worthiness and qualifications are not prerequisites for success; it is the willingness to learn and the determination to thrive that propels us forward.

With newfound vigor and the unwavering support of Generation Kenya , I took a plunge into freelancing, eagerly embracing the uncertainty that lay ahead. But just as I was navigating the uncharted waters of my newfound career, fate played a curious hand. My former employer reached out, offering the same position but at a different department within the company. Tempted by the comfort of a 9-to-5 job, I hesitated—should I take the familiar path or persist on the unpredictable road I had chosen?

In the blink of an eye, a revelation struck me like lightning, igniting my heart with an unshakable truth—I had to follow my passion, no matter the risks or obstacles that lay ahead. Resigning from the security of a job in these challenging times might have seemed irrational to some, but to me, it was an act of reclaiming my true self.

With the wisdom of experience and the fire of determination, I returned to the world of freelancing with a fervor like never before. Effort became my greatest ally, for I had learned that talent alone couldn't guarantee success; it was the relentless pursuit of excellence and the commitment to learn on the job that made all the difference.

Currently in the sixth month of my freelancing journey, I marvel at the distance I have covered. A stable income, long-term clients, rubbing shoulders and doing business with the elites were not mere dreams but tangible achievements. Collaborating with extraordinary professionals from diverse fields and launching my first boot camp were milestones I once believed were beyond my reach.

As I stand today, my heart swells with pride, knowing that I've created my own path and left an indelible mark in my chosen domain. Through the ups and downs, I discovered that my unique perspective mattered, that imperfect content and unrefined quality still held value, and that effort, relentless and unwavering, needs no talent to succeed.
