The effort needed for an athlete to succeed!
In sports, athletes have both short and long-term goals. These goals to be met by athletes need commitment from the athlete. One of the important keys with which athletes can reach their goals is #perseverance . It is a quality that every athlete must possess to achieve excellence in their respective fields. #Perseverance entails having a steadfast, devoted and consistent #performance in any scenario.
One of the best examples to quote in this situation is the #performance of Lasse Viren’s 1972 Olympic 10,000m world record breaking win despite falling down mid-race. Lasse Viren was viewed as the wildcard in the 5000m and the 10,000m races. The chances of him winning the race appeared distant when he stumbled and fell to the floor.
In an iconic moment in Olympic history, he picked himself and #persevered towards the lead pack. He paced into second place and cemented his position that he wasn’t going to back down without a fight. In the final 500m he accelerated, winning the gold for himself and his country, while creating a new world record of 27:38:35. He continued his stellar #performance in the consecutive Montreal games becoming the first athlete to win back-to-back titles in the 5000m and 10000m races in the Olympics.
