Efficient Hiring Process – A Case Study by Adeptis Search

In a candidate-driven market, having an efficient hiring process is vital to securing top talent; most recruiters will be able to tell you how much it stings when their client misses out on a great candidate to a rival company who has got to offer stage before their client has even booked in the second stage interview. Now, there are endless articles, blogs and LinkedIn posts titled “5 easy to streamline the recruitment process” which are great but all repeat basic principles that are mostly common sense. I thought sharing a real-world example from just last month of an Adeptis Group client, that managed to sign terms and make a hire within the space of a week, would offer more practical insight.

The role was a Director of Sales EMEA for a US based start-up and the hiring process was supposed to be 1 st stage with the VP EMEA, 2 nd stage with the HR manager and the final stage with the CEO. However, the company wanted to move quickly with this particular candidate and the CEO had a trip to London planned so they managed to match up the first stage interview with this trip and the candidate met with the CEO first.

The key point here is that the CEO was the final decision maker, so getting him involved at such an early stage meant that the other two conversations were more of a formality. This meant they were able to make an offer within a week and get the candidate started at the company the week after. This speed of process also shows the level of belief the CEO had in the candidate and pushed him to choose our client over any of the other offers he had on the table. A change in the process such as moving the decision maker to the first stage is simple and effective, however is not always at the forefront of company’s minds. It may not also be the right change for every company to be more efficient in its hiring processes.
