EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION SKILLS TRAINING IN SINGAPORE

Receiving effective presentation skills training in Singapore is a great idea regardless of your industry or position. Recent studies have found that public speaking is one of the most common fears, even more common than death. If you are noticeably nervous in front of an audience, your presentation is not going to be as persuasive or well-received. Thankfully, developing effective presentation skills is relatively easy. All it takes is a bit of knowledge and a lot of practice. Take a look at the tips below to help you give confident, persuasive, and compelling presentations.

TIP #1: BE PASSIONATE

Even if you are delivering an incredibly well-researched presentation, if it comes across as dry or boring, your audience is less likely to be persuaded. Passionate speakers are the most convincing and the easiest to listen to. Find something about your topic that sparks passion and build your presentation from there. For example, fiscal meetings are typically very dry. You can create passion and excitement by focusing your presentation around the areas you excel in and talking about the ideas you have to help the company more forward.

Being passionate and engaging the audience can also makes you appear less nervous. It is very hard to seem uptight and stiff if you are actively and expressively talking about a topic that excites you. Some individuals fake this type of enthusiasm at first, only to find that it quickly becomes genuine. Putting passion into your presentation is a great way to instantly capture and retain your audience’s attention.

TIP #2: KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

It is important to keep your presentation assessible and understandable by everyone in your audience. In some cases, you might have to change the language you would normally use when speaking about a topic. In others, you should be sure to define industry-related jargon into everyday terms. If you are explaining a complex topic, make sure you break it down in terms that your audience knows. The only exception to this is when you are presenting to peers, in which case breaking down terms can come across as condescending.

Knowing your audience also involves catering to their attention span. Make sure your presentation does not run long or become rambling. As you prepare your speech, keep asking yourself what the takeaway message is. If you are about to say something that is not relevant to your topic, avoid saying it. In addition, make sure that any humor used is appropriate for your audience.

TIP #3: USE SLIDESHOWS WISELY

Slideshows have become a common presentation tool – for good reason. They give you a way to appeal to your audience visually and helps keep their attention focused. Slideshows are also a great way to visually represent data or concepts that may have otherwise been difficult to explain. People who are nervous when presenting may find slideshows to be an excellent tool. They help you stay on topic, focused on the information you need to provide. If you find that you are a distracted speaker, or that you lose track of where you are in your speech, a slideshow can be a fantastic tool.

Since slideshows are such a great visual aid, they are often misused, ruining their ability to impact your audience. Make sure your presentation involves more than just slides, such as an introduction and conclusion. You should also ensure that each slide is relevant and adds something valuable to the conversation. Never include a slide to waste time or as filler. Experts also recommend that you follow the 10-20-30 rule. Slideshows should have no more than 10 slides, last no longer than 20 minutes, and contain text that is no less than 30-point font. If you are dealing with a complex topic, you can switch to the 20-20 rule. Under the 20-20 rule, your presentation should have 20 slides, each lasting exactly 20 seconds. This helps break down complex information into multiple slides, without losing the attention of your audience.

Keeping these tips in mind ensures you feel more comfortable in front of crowds and more confident presenting your material. Remember that believing in yourself and in the information you are presenting is the key to delivering the perfect presentation. Working on these skills now, before you are up for promotion, shows off your ambition, and ensures you are ready when the perfect career opportunity arrives.
