An effective goal statement for any project would involve a well-defined objective that outlines the minimum level of statistical significance required to validate the project's outcomes or findings. In statistical terms, this typically involves establishing a threshold for the p-value, which represents the probability of obtaining the observed results if the null hypothesis were true.
Example of such a goal statement:
Our project aims to demonstrate a beneficial impact of our intervention on the targeted metric. We will consider the goal accomplished if our statistical tests yield a p-value of less than 0.05, indicating that the likelihood of observing such an impact by chance is below 5%. This level of statistical significance will be deemed as minimally significant for this project's purposes.
