Effective Communication Strategies in Contentious Discussions
[This is a short one]
In arguments, Jordan Peterson made the following assertions.
Step 1 - Institute the following rule: you don't get to respond to the person's claims until they've exhausted that particular claim.
Step 2 - Recapitulate the person's viewpoint and summarize it in a manner they find acceptable.
Step 3 - Strike right to the quick by laying out the point and ensuring that they're pleased with your summary.
Step 4 - Be familiar with the entire range of arguments deeply, and have some respect for them.
Step 5 - If the person is not listening, stop talking and explore the situation to understand what's going on.
Step 6 - It's much more informative to walk away from a conversation having learned something new, rather than having won an argument.
