EE explodes, big feature launches and AI prompt engineering

Summer is here and due to a recent vacation I was slacking with the newsletter. But have no fear, we're back in action:

Immigration

  • After a quiet May and June, IRCC has exploded on the Express Entry front with 4 draws in 6 days. We've been seeing a lot more CEC/PNP draws in the last month or two, but they also recently mixed in a trades, healthcare and French draw too. Link to their official draw data here.
  • IRCC recently ended the flagpoling option for those applying for a post-grad work permit. Flagpoling is a process where - instead of submitting an application online to IRCC and waiting for a decision - an applicant gathers their documents, drives across the US border and then turns around to apply for their new permit at the Canadian port of entry (customs). More details from the official IRCC announcement here.
  • In early June IRCC announced the extension and expansion of their caregiver pilot programs, making it easier for caregivers to come to Canada and get permanent residence. I have mixed feelings because as anyone in the industry knows, this is also a new way people will try to "game" the system since the eligibility requirements are very low. I'm sure shady players are already selling caregiver jobs to Canada around the world as we speak, but let's see... more info on the IRCC website here.

Visto

It's been a big month on the Visto front as we:

  • Just launched a big, BIG new feature that allows immigration firms to draft, customized and e-sign documents using AI. Our current clients just got their hands on it today, I'll share more info on my LinkedIn tomorrow...
  • Added some of the most popular PNPs to our AI Copilot, so you can ask our AI any questions about PNPs, their eligibility, tips and more for PNPs in BC, Ontario, Sask, Manitoba and Alberta. Here's a video I recorded of it.
  • Our AI is getting so good that we had a Q&A session with it last week on the Visto Show, where live attendees asked their Canadian immigration questions and the Visto Copilot gave its advice. It was pretty cool/fun and I'll definitely do more of it. You can check out the full recordings of the Visto Show here.

The rest

  • Last week I was interviewed on the Argentech Radio Show by Adriana F. where we had a fun conversation about how I became a lawyer, got into immigration, switched over to cofounding Visto, the glory days of Canadian immigration, what I'm seeing in the industry and a lot more. Definitely give it a watch here!
  • Along the lines of our AI, I shared some thoughts on AI prompt engineering last week. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite new things to learn and get better at. See my full post on it here.
  • I continue to share all of the ups and downs of building businesses in Canada on my substack. Recently I've talked about things like adjusting to the slower summer months, focus, building AI tech specifically and more. Make sure you're subscribed here.

That's it for me, but expect some big announcements related to AI + Canadian immigration soon.

Have an awesome week ahead,
