eDVR product testing – How long is an eDVR’s storage duration?

According to Hikvision’s product test, eDVRs’ storage duration can be up to two/four/eight weeks. Moreover, the Scene-Adaptive Bitrate Control can greatly improve the device’s coding performance and hence boosting storage efficiency.

?

Subject: Hikvision’s eDVR, model number DS-E04HQHI-B, all channels with 2 MP analog cameras for all-day video recording. The video frame rate is 1080p @ 15 frames per second.

?

Experimental environment: In an industrial park, cameras deliver four images of relatively complex scenes. These four images include two camera channels focusing on the industrial park’s landscape and roadways, which are regarded as high-complexity scenes. Another two images show the corridor and the entrance and exit of the gate.

Test results: Before testing, the unused data storage space available in the eDVR was 439 GB. After two weeks, the remaining space in the eDVR was 0, and the original video began to be overwritten. The data storage duration was extended over 13 days, using about 33.7 GB per day.?

Additionally, we calculated the storage occupied by each camera channel every day. As is shown in the picture, the change curve of the overall storage is almost a straight line. That is to say, the total storage occupied every day is almost the same.

?

Conclusions: Scene-Adaptive Bitrate Control is capable of pre-allocating the total storage space, which greatly improves coding efficiency.
