Education and web3: Making students in control
Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring the multiple uses of web3 in all aspects of our lives from the workplace to healthcare. However, there is one area of life that affects everyone that I didn’t even think of at first, as even I didn’t realise the potential web3 had for it, which is education. When you dive deep into the potential web3 has for education and more students, it really is revolutionary for student life and finance.
One of the ways web3 impacts education is that web3 would give students more financial freedom. Web 3.0 supports the ‘earn as you learn’ concept. Learners can become NFT creators and earn well, they do not have any strict qualifications to create such as age or educational/ job status before putting on their creative hats for such ventures. Not only does this allow for financial freedom, but also the ‘earn as you learn’ concept allows for flexible working meaning it is easier to earn money as well as study and balance your work and social life to truly benefit the individual.
Furthermore, another positive of the ‘earn as you learn’ concept when applied to NFT collection, is that it promotes creative mindsets. According to Tony Tran, a journalist for The Entrepreneur ‘In today’s landscape, creativity drives more business impact than just pure hours’, and this translates to what employers strive for and want. In today’s workplace, 96% of employers want people with a creative mindset due to their unique problem-solving skills, dedication, passion and drive to deliver high-quality products, so learning and building this mindset early on whilst still in education is critical for success in the working world.
Another way web3 impacts education is through greater access to materials. When in education having access to resources is key, especially at university. But more often than not, great online resources such as essays, books, and studies are often locked behind subscription services. With the web3 decentralized system where everyone has an equal opportunity to develop and grow and have access to all the resources, they will need. Web3 eliminates third-party involvement and rests the power with the network nodes who verify the data due to the tamper-proofing properties of blockchain technology, Web3 is able to store large volumes of data securely and make sure they are accurate.
Overall, web3 can provide massive improvements to the welfare of students across the world. Giving them more financial freedom as well as wider access to information from around the world.
