In a world that is continuously adapting, evolving, and transforming, it needs a radical shift in its view of education. It needs to go beyond its view of narrow vocational function, where education is seen within a limited spectrum where it is needed to pass examinations and get jobs and careers. The time especially calls for an urgent and needed shift in our understanding of education and its true meaning, which is not limited to any discipline or faculty. The time calls for a more expansive, broadened, and holistic view of education where it can help connect global challenges not just pertaining to humanity but to interspecies basis and embrace global citizenship to look at the larger picture of the existence of life.
After recognizing the pressing need for a broader perspective on education, it's crucial to first understand the barriers that have historically confined our thinking. These barriers, deeply rooted in our upbringing, societal norms, and economic motivations, have shaped and often limited our collective view of what education truly means. Let's delve into these restricting factors to better grasp the challenges we face in reimagining education.
Learning from our upbringing: Whatever we learn initially, we learn as a part of our upbringing in our family and early culture. Our worldview starts to take shape here, and education has a prime role here while we understand its importance early on. Families may influence how we will pursue education, what education is, and whether we will take it or not. Lack of emphasis on certain parts and disciplines or overemphasis on certain educational pursuits is what is fed through the early family culture even before we decide to go to school.
How we see the world in our early years is what shapes our own reality; the religion, values, and cultures that are fed make up most of our view of how we will further understand others and things related to them. Many religions, communities, and cultures have different takes on basic education. According to such cultures and traditions, education is gender-specific; children are allowed to be educated only until high school. Beliefs are inherited from generation to generation, and this becomes imperative because, in childhood, all become unconsciously accepted by children, and education becomes a part of whatever conditioning comes through family, society, and norms. The same is true when the inheritance is quite open-minded and broad, where children are guided towards curiously exploring the world on their own.
It is important we recognize this, and in whatever capacity, our family must establish a culture where children are not part of the conditioning of any kind that shapes their view of education narrowed down in a restrictive way that encompasses a partial understanding of the world.
Life as a rat race: What if we were more encouraged to follow our passions and discover them rather than just conforming to society? We have been conditioned to work out life as if it’s a rat race in which we must complete a course of travel within a predetermined amount of time. The current educational system gives grades and rankings precedence over self-exploration, individuality, and discovery. We promote a culture in which children and young adults are educated to learn more so that they may make more money, land better jobs, and advance their careers within the framework of competition and the race system that is most widely accepted. If anything falls apart or wanders from this framework, then life becomes a flaw, as if fixed patterns of life are to be followed. It is important that we recognize the patterns we consciously and unconsciously create in society that turn life into a rat race, especially for young people, and understand that life is not as mechanical as we think; it is us who need to drive an environment that is free from too much focus on competition and judgments based on societal norms and where individuals are free to choose what they want to become out of their passion and drive.
As a consequence of such an approach to life, where leading it in the form of a rat race brings mental stress and dissatisfaction in the minds of people, the urge to break free remains underneath to explode someday. To change all this, we must shift our mentality from the false urgencies in life and let especially the young explore life at their own speed and pace. Such an approach will not only promote innovation but also help them to become curious, imaginative, and explorers with a lifelong learner mindset.
Limited view of education: What if our education system celebrates curiosity, diversity, and imagination in the same way as we celebrate our grades? We live in a society where the majority has a very limited view of education, only restricted to as a means of earning a livelihood when this is important and right, but that does not make it complete; here it misses other points too, which makes education necessary not just for earning a livelihood but also to understand the whole spectrum of life. With an overemphasis on grades and exams, we limit our understanding of education and narrow down our efforts towards just passing the examinations. This not only reduces our curiosity and imagination but also keeps us far from actual reality and the challenges of the world.

With an expansive view of education, we should focus more on lifelong learning and understand that learning doesn't end after formal education. Focus on interdisciplinary and diverse learning of subjects, learning to connect dots in the larger world for a wholesome and holistic view.
While these barriers have historically shaped our perception and approach to education, it's essential to acknowledge that the future of learning requires a paradigm shift. As we move forward, we must pivot from these limiting factors and concentrate on areas that truly matter in fostering a holistic, adaptive, and future-ready education system. Let's explore the key elements that should be at the forefront of this educational revolution.
Understanding the Natural World and our Interspecies roles: education in life is more than just a medium for earning a living. It has an important place, a base for setting up our understanding of how the natural world works, how the ecosystem functions, and how we human beings have roles on this whole interspecies planet. Understanding all this is not just necessary for being in the professions of environment and sustainability, but it is also necessary to keep things balanced between human beings and other species. It is only a true educational mind that can understand how everything is connected to everything and how the whole planet is connected through a common thread of life.
Cultivating Global Citizenship and Cultural Understanding: Education has a great role in shaping individuals into global citizens. We live in a highly globalized culture at this point in our history as mankind, where understanding the differences between cultures and embracing them stands as the most important thing in order to live in global peace, and that is education. Understanding history, diversity, and cultures is very important at this time to become a global citizen. It is insufficient to think about issues and education from a regionalist perspective. Global citizenship?is not just a?buzzword; it’s more of an idea, notion, and framework that transcends national borders and promotes a sense of community within a globally interconnected globe. Realizing and accepting the fact that people are not simply citizens of their own nations but also are part of a global community that faces the same challenges, has the same responsibilities, and has the same opportunities
Promoting Continuous Learning and Adaptability as a Path to Personal Fulfillment: The perception of education being confined to a phase of life is a limited view. Rather, it is a continuous journey that should span over a lifetime. The perspective encourages seeking knowledge not just for livelihood but for one's own curiosity, growth in mindset, and fulfillment. By embracing a truly curious and imaginative mindset, one can sail towards uncharted endeavors in the technological and ever-changing landscape. This will not only help grow individuals beyond academic and vocational levels but also help them grow their self-awareness.
Education as a Tool for Ethical and Moral Grounding: Education has a prime and pivotal role in shaping the character and mindset for building a moral ground to understand the world and carry out our actions. The education function does not end with the presentation of facts and figures for understanding; it actually begins with acting on those things and understanding the consequences of our actions and their ripple effects around the world. A well-rounded individual uses education beyond just vocation to instill values, ethics, and moral responsibility to make informed decisions for the larger community.
