Education; not only schooling

Education is a process that has no boundary. It is said that we are learning all the time, because it aims at making us better person. Unless the education makes us a good human being, it is of no use. Many of us believe that education is meant for getting good job or having good status in the society. Basically it is different from schooling. Schooling is a formal process of acquiring knowledge which is divided in classes, acquired in stages and ultimately it makes the student fit for the world. The critical aspect of schooling is its emphasis on student to make him employable. Education is beyond the confines of school. We nurture our children and teach them to dream to big, to dream of becoming good lawyer, engineer, doctor etc. In this quest, our children attained those goals but devoid of morality. The result is massive corruption in our society. We don’t teach them to become ‘happy’. The process of education flows from a basic orientation of respect – respect for truth, others and the world. Respect for people is one of the core elements for developing oneself. It cannot be attained by formal education. Addressing any senior professional to sir does not mean that I am petty important to him. It is an attitude or feeling into the way we treat people. Day to day experiences of our life is the best education. It is not written in books; neither can it be taught nor can it be learnt, it is something that we acquire while we are busy in finding our path through the maze called life.

Education has very broad meaning; education is something which we get every day from anyone or anything at any place. In wider sense, education is the total development of the personality. In this sense, education consists of all those experiences, which affect the individual from birth till death. Thus, education is that process by which an individual freely develops his self according to his nature in a free and uncontrolled environment. In this way, education is a lifelong process of growth environment. Continuity is the law of life. Education is not limited to the classroom only; it is also not limited to a particular period of life. Education is a lifelong process and goes on from birth to death. Throughout life one goes on learning to adjust oneself to the changing patterns of life. Change it’s the fundamental law of human existence. Life is a continuous process of growth and development and so education is also a continuous process.
