This week I had the pleasure of sitting down and speaking with? Brian Piper , Director of Content Strategy and Assessment for? University of Rochester .

Brian is a real content expert and has brought this expertise to the higher ed sector. Brian is the co-author of Epic Content Marketing and contributing author of The Most Amazing Marketing Book Ever.

On the podcast, Brian shared some brilliant insights into content and communications.

See the key insights from my conversation with Brian below;

Have different content strategies for different targeted audiences.

Universities have lots of different audiences for their different schools, departments and courses they need to cater to.

Creating different types of content such as newsletters, videos and blogs can be leveraged and used by the marketing team to boost engagement.

Content can be used for alumni engaged and nurtured also such as an Alumni magazine.

Content for universities can include showing university life and the impact the university has on the world.

Their is no shortage of content for universities if communications internally are strong to keep the content team aware of news, research and developments at the university.

Universities can create seperate social channels for each audience so content can be targeted easily to each audience.

Universities can have dozens or even hundreds of newsletters and social media channels depending on how many audiences they want to target.

Once the content team is in place and the process is in place for the team to create the content the coordination of the content is the key work needed to be consistent.
