Lebanon Faces Educational Crisis Amid Continued Conflict with Israel
The recent conflict in Lebanon has severely disrupted the education system, with 1.5 million children affected by school closures and displacement. Nearly half of public schools are now shelters, delaying the school year and worsening the impact of past crises like the Beirut explosion and COVID-19. These challenges mark the sixth consecutive year of major setbacks in Lebanon’s education sector.
Why it’s important: Prolonged educational disruptions risk creating a lost generation, undermining Lebanon's economic recovery and social stability. Displaced children face not only interrupted learning but also trauma and poverty, with lasting consequences for their future opportunities. Restoring education is essential for Lebanon's recovery and resilience, with regional implications for stability.
