Educate Yourself
My english teacher in high school once walked over to me while I was taking a vocabulary test, stood over my shoulder and said "it looks like you didn't study again".
The truth was I did study, I just was born with a learning disability and it took me longer to to comprehend what I was learning. She didn't care to educate herself about me and my struggles.
School was hard for me but I ultimately graduated from high school and got accepted to college (with terms). I needed to do well for two semesters in order to stay at the college. I knocked that out of the park and even received deans list (twice).
I was fortunate to be welcomed back to Manhattanville on two separate occasions. The first was in 2018 to receive a 'Graduate Award' for my community work, presented by the Manhattanville College Alumni Association Board of Directors and the second time in 2019 was to give the Baccalaureate Ceremony keynote speech during their graduation.
These were beautiful moments in my life.
I am so thankful for the education I received at Manhattanville. But I am even more grateful for the diversity I was submerged in for four years. The school is ranked very high for its ethnic diversity and its what gave me a beautiful foundation for being a great leader. I picked Manhattanville because of this. I wanted more from my college experience. I wanted to educate myself about diversity and inclusion through a global lens for four years. It worked, but I still have a lot to learn.
I often try to keep my posts positive in nature but this particular tweet has angered me and I wanted to write about it.
As a Sports marketer and a decent, loving human-being who strives to be empathic towards others, this post by our President of the United States of America is filled with pure hate and lacks any leadership. It's not what our country needs now or tomorrow.
Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE for Richard Petty Motorsports. He is highly respected by his fellow drivers and NASCAR community. I think this picture explains it perfectly.
I want to share this post by Bubba today. It really impacted me. This is leadership at its finest.
I hope that you will read this, educate yourself about what is really happening in our country and be empathic to people of all races, disabilities and sexual preference. Why? Because we are all humans and we all breathe the same air. No one is better than anyone else.
Love always wins, thank you for that reminder Bubba.
