Most of the time when a potential customer (As we call them guest's in hotel industry) visits any hotel or resort, it is the best and only opportunity to showcase your establishment's value and reason to do business with for lifetime. While it does become repetitive in daily life of sales team members, the effect of hotel site inspection remains for quite long time hence crucial. I have done numerous site inspections of many hotels I have worked and till today, I can recollect the expressions and feelings I saw on those guest's faces and value I created for them and the company I worked for. Every hotel has a soul and its own story, as sales rep, we sell that story so master it, go into details and find the best expressions to depict the story. While you are conducting this lifetime engaging site inspection, feel the energy like an actor on stage, every word you say holds importance and how you say it is your dialogue delivery, every thing you say is noted and incase you didn't do your homework before the guest arrived ( lighting of ballroom & meeting rooms, nice and fresh bedrooms and first experience as welcome when guest arrived at the hotel), you have spoiled the first impression.
Remember, if you are not passionate about what you sell as product, you will never be able to convince the customer, find a right job and appreciate the establishment. Always make a promise what you can deliver so be honest and understand the requirements better instead of a monologue!
As word of mouth spreads and people buy people hence leave an impression and treat every site inspection (whether million dollar deal or a unknown potential buyer) as your best. it not only helps to make an everlasting impression on the guest but also your impression, you are the brand!
I know several site inspections where sales colleague in other hotels were like reading an excel sheet. Feedback from such site inspection resulted into no business to those hotels. In my personal experience, I met a customer who walked up to me post my sales presentation at a recent trade show and told me that he is shocked by what and how I told the story of the hotel I work because when he was physically in my hotel few months back, he didn't like anything and don't remember seeing half of the things I mentioned during the presentation. I found out that a non sales colleague of mine did the site inspection since it was weekend, while this person did apologize during the visit, barely showed one bedroom and meeting room. Thank god I met the guest and invited him again to see the hotel once again, this time with me fully prepared.
We are business development warriors and our job is to represent the brand so do your best like I will always ensure that whenever I will do site inspection, I will do my homework and create value for the guest as appreciation to his/ her time
Hope this article helps, please do leave a note if any further suggestion. I have written top line, training and grooming of sales team member is essential and a separate topic to address.

Great article - not sure what statistics are about today but historically a strong site inspection would lead to future business 70% of the time.
