Editor’s Picks: Issue #4 – Copper surges and star manager concerns

Hello from Citywire Selector,

Another busy week as people begin to look longingly towards the summer break.

Moves dominated our headlines over the past week, as Kasper Elmgreen, CFA Elmgreen left Amundi to return to Nordea, Laurence Terryn had her remit expanded at BdL and impact specialist Lightrock made a push into public markets with a former Kempen duo.

But, away from the personnel changes, what stories, analysis or insights might be worth revisiting? Let’s take a look.

My choices this week

  1. Commodities have proven an intriguing battleground in recent years, as geopolitical tensions rise and the need for better resource use in the energy transition comes to the fore. Ian Heath spoke to Neuberger Berman’s Hakan Kaya , who is backing a boom period for copper.
  2. The Citywire World of ESG newsletter has often showcased the ongoing headaches providers face when having to stay on top of changing demands. Recent research by Clarity AI has raised alarm bells that more than 95% of funds currently branded as ‘sustainable’ won’t meet European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) authority guidelines, Krystle Higgins reports.
  3. Another interesting report from the past week was 晨星 highlighting how investors should approach a fund manager change. The 15-page document indicated there is always a ‘honeymoon period’ immediately prior to a PM jumping ship and just after they start their new role. Read our write-up here.
  4. Finally, showcasing my own work unfortunately, but the short-selling community were stung by suggestions their activities could be curtailed in the name of market security. Argonaut 's Barry Norris and Plurimi ’s Patrick Armstrong, CFA presented the case for betting against bad companies.

Thanks for reading,

Chris
