The EditMate Round Up: Inaugural Edition
September still gives that back-to-school energy
You know the vibe: new jacket, fully stocked backpack & determination to dominate calculus...
While I have no reason to hit up Staples (and let's face it, I never figured out how to dominate calculus), I did want to create some kind of fresh start and introduce something new.
And of course, one of the reasons my company
EditMate
has been around for the last nearly 9 (!) years is that we've been able to evolve our offerings
So in the spirit of our previous monthly newsletters (Marketer Monthly & Our Top 5 over on our blog) but with a new vibe and address, I would like to introduce The EditMate Round Up.?
In this newsletter, at the end of each month, you'll get 10 quick hits: 10 links to the best content around all of our favorite subjects: video, marketing, employer branding, how to be a creative and productive human
The content will be in the form of videos (duh) but also articles, podcasts, memes, mini-updates from our team, tweets... heck, you may even get a playlist. Plus, I'll sneak in a few EditMate Originals too.?
Let's get right into it:?

Yikes, nearly half of Grindr's staff quit after the company tried to force them back into the office
Speaking of which... Flexible Work is Feminist (from Erin Grau, CEO of Charter in Fortune) & 2 of my favorite quotes from this one:
"We’ve been stuck in the same corporate work norms since the late 1940s when many families could live comfortably on one paycheck and just a third of women worked outside of the home. While so much else has changed, we are being told the only way to work is to return to a schedule invented with the Model T."

Upgrades to the Human OS, AI & the end of brands as we know it, & 2 of my favorite quotes from this one:
"This is possibly good news for middle-aged creatives (and Writers’ Guild of America): Instead of fighting against this tidal wave of generative AI, learn how to surf and gain the kind of creative edge you didn’t have before."
"AI is quickly taking away from humans the work of generating and even crafting something. So the job that’s left for humans is to imagine what magic to create."

A blog post on Recruitment Copy that inspired our team to review all the copywriting on our own website:
"In copywriting, the term "we" is a no-no. Every line that begins with "we" should be rewritten to "you." Whether in an email or on your career website. Rephrase it. Don’t be full of yourself. Write for them. Speak directly to them." (from Eva Baluchova, Global Employer Branding Lead)

Employer Brand Video Checklist: including goals to aim for, a checklist to follow & a video example to get you inspired.
And lastly, if like me, you require music to work but find lyrics distract you from actually writing... I highly recommend this playlist which I listened to while writing this exact newsletter. (I wasn't kidding about including a playlist ??)
That's it! I tried to tag/link to everyone that LinkedIn would allow.
Hope this was interesting to read or at the very least, not painful to read. Expect another newsletter at the end of October, that I'll write while hyped on candy that I've stolen from my 2-year-old's Halloween stash. Thanks for reading!
