Dear Women Who Do,

Do you mentor others? Or do you have a mentor yourself? Mentorship has long been touted as the key to success for women and it’s undoubtedly helpful. But is it enough to move the needle for women in the workplace?

Jennifer Stucko, our WIE SUITE Woman of the Week, thinks mentorship has been vital for her success as a CEO. And, Judy Spalthoff, Managing Director of UBS Financial Service?concurs.

I am continuously in awe of the mentorship of my Advisor Jessica Sibley, CEO of Time. Jessica brings me into important rooms that will open up doors for me and in those rooms I always meet at least a handful of other individuals that she is also lifting up.

FEMALE MENTORSHIP: DO YOU NEED IT?

“I believe mentorship is vitally important to someone’s career,” shared WIE Suite member Judy Spalthoff, Managing Director of UBS Financial Services in research conducted by the WIE Suite. She continued, “and I don't necessarily think that gender is the determining factor to a meaningful mentee/mentor relationship. However, I think women face uniquely different challenges at work than men do, so it is helpful to have female mentors."

75% of executives credit mentors with much of their success, and 90% of employees with career mentors report that they are happy at work. Mentoring makes an impact. But, there is nuance to this - a topic we will be exploring in more detail this month.

We all get ready, and we've got those talking points, and we've got our script. And we know exactly what we want to say, that's great. But what takes communicating well into the territory of communicating brilliantly, is taking that extra step.
