Welcome to Edition 9 of "The Mentor's Compass - Guiding Africa's Entrepreneurs"!
??In this Edition we discuss "Mentoring Culture as a Business Differentiator" and how an entrepreneur can implement a mentoring culture in their organization in order to attract top talent and become an employer of choice.
With the African entrepreneur fishing for talent in the same pool as the major corporate organizations, it is important for the entrepreneur to position their organization as an employer of choice.
One of the the ways in which the entrepreneur can achieve this, is by having a mentoring culture within the organization.
An organization with a mentoring culture is likely to be more attractive to potential employees because it fosters growth, support, and connection and shows a commitment to personal and professional development.
According to The 2024 Mentoring Impact Report, 98 % of Fortune 500 Companies have Mentoring Programmes, increasing from 70 % in 2009. Although the figures for Africa are not readily available, the upward trend is likely to be same.
Besides attracting new talent, a mentoring culture enhances employee retention, encourages knowledge sharing, loyalty and promotes innovation.
An entrepreneur can create a mentoring culture in the organization by implementing a mentoring program in which more experienced members of the organization guide newer or less experienced colleagues.
