Edition #7: What's The Point Viewsletter

Welcome to Edition #7 of What’s the point? - the December 2024 Viewsletter with a collection of ideas, insights and interviews on customer loyalty and loyalty programs to help lift your loyalty strategies and programs out of the snow of whiteness.

They have been collated from our interview series with Loyalty Leaders, the ongoing For Love or Money? customer loyalty and loyalty program research and our experience in designing and deploying customer loyalty and loyalty programs since 2007.

Loyalty program ‘Troubles and Trends’ for 2025 (with six actions)

As we move into 2025, the loyalty program landscape presents both notable troubles to tackle and emerging trends to harness.

Understanding and addressing these dynamics is essential for creating loyalty programs that are profitable and sustainable for your business and meaningful and desirable for your members.

Have a read and then consider:

  1. Activate a loyalty program 'Troubles and Trends' working session with your wider team.
  2. Identify actions to minimise the Troubles or amplify the Trends.
  3. Create a 2 x 2 grid to assess each action based on criteria eg Investment (high / low) x Impact on defined metrics (high / low)
  4. Then review by timing and people to make it happen.

May 2025 be the year for your loyalty program to Minimise the Troubles and Maximise the Trends.

Launch of a new loyalty podcast: Notes & Books. Loyalty Magic.

That’s my hallucination.

Actually, for those of you going down the Artificial Intelligence vortex (for me some of it seems close to Actual Intelligence) will be familiar with notebooklm.google.com

If you can’t spot my hallucination, then here it is: notebook = Notes & Books and lm = Loyalty Magic.

Nope, I am not going to be producing a new loyalty podcast.

I get too much Joyalty* Moments of Magic from the:

  • Annual customer loyalty and loyalty program research For Love or MoneyTM (17 editions to-date and 2025 in planning)
  • The not so regular vlogcast ‘The Professor and The Practitioner’ (watch out for series #4) and
  • Loyalty Leader interviews (36 to-date and more in 2025)

So, no new loyalty podcast from me.

BUT, woweeee, the podcasts created by notebooklm.google.com of the 2024 report For Love or MoneyTM and my paper ‘The new Loyalty Program is a Joyalty* Program’ have astounded me!

Renae Trimble GAICD – a Loyalty Leader who believes people and partnerships are the power behind a loyalty program’s success

Summary

So much wisdom and experience comes shining through this Loyalty Leader interview with Renae.

The Billboard quote below is perfect!

Also, her relentless focus on the future, rather than dwelling in the past is a reminder for all of us.

How Renae takes Joyalty* Moments of Magic to another level with her engagement with members when they send her messages – love this!

Another insight to give me a lift was how Renae viewed retention vs churn. Brilliant!

The world of subscriptions continues to cross categories and the insights in this interview are valuable!
