A leading campaigner on issues of media freedom and freedom of expression, Ginsberg has served on the boards of the Global Network Initiative and The Trust for the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Jodie Ginsberg is CEO of the Committee to Protect Journalists, a nonprofit organization working worldwide to ensure that journalists can report freely and safely. A journalist by profession, Ginsberg began her career with Reuters news agency. She then became CEO of Index on Censorship, a group dedicated to defending freedom of expression, and, later, of Internews Europe, a media development non-profit.

She is the founder and patron of Mama Doing Good, which aims to catalyze socio-economic transformation in Kenyan communities through initiatives focused on women’s economic empowerment, environment and climate action, and “mercy works,” which includes emergency response and youth empowerment. Ruto also founded the Joyful Women Organization, an initiative to empower rural women financially.?
