Sara Blakely??
Sara Blakely is an American entrepreneur and the founder of Spanx, a company specialising in shaping underwear and clothing. Who hasn't needed some additional help under that little black dress.
Blakely’s journey from a door-to-door fax machine saleswoman to a billionaire businesswoman is a remarkable story of perseverance, innovation, and self-belief.?
Blakely came up with the idea for Spanx in 1998, frustrated by the lack of flattering undergarments available to women.??
With $5,000 in savings, she developed a prototype by cutting the feet off a pair of pantyhose.?
Despite having no background in fashion or business, Blakely managed to secure a meeting with a Neiman Marcus buyer by demonstrating her product in the ladies' room.?

This hands-on, authentic approach led to Spanx being stocked in major department stores, and the company quickly gained popularity.
One of Blakely’s key strengths has been her ability to market Spanx effectively.??
Without a large advertising budget, she relied on grassroots marketing, personal appearances, and word-of-mouth to build the brand.??
Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement in 2000 was a pivotal moment, catapulting Spanx into the spotlight.?
Blakely’s story is not just about financial success; it’s also about resilience and maintaining a positive mindset. She has often spoken about the importance of embracing failure and learning from it, a lesson she credits to her father’s encouragement during her upbringing.
Stop for a minute - were you a child brought up to not make mistakes and feel bad when you had? Time for a perception shift and realise this is what will make you better not worse.
1 Business Tip
Utilise Time Blocking
Here's a quick tip to boost your productivity -? utilise time blocking.?
This method involves dividing your day into distinct blocks of time, each dedicated to a specific task or activity.?
Start by identifying your most important tasks and allocate focused time blocks for them, free from distractions.?
For instance, you might block out 9-10:30am (plenty of books written on doing your 90 minutes) for strategic planning, 11am-12 pm for team meetings, and so on.?
This technique helps you maintain focus, reduces multitasking, and ensures that you make steady progress on your key priorities.

1 Deborah's Diary
Smile Please
I had some new pics taken this week.
I had to give myself a severe talking to.
In the past I have always given myself a beating up with pictures for my business. Even when I was younger and I had no idea that was as good as it gets in the ageing process!?
This time round, I am a stone heavier and that has unhinged me when it comes to having my pictures taken!
But. It’s important to live your life retrospectively in that department and know that actually my self-talk can turn to ‘you are well, loving your life, and in truth the happiest you have felt for years’ - it kind of puts the extra stone into perspective, doesn’t it??
When was the last time you had new pics taken??
Is something holding you back?
?
Till next week... how can I help??

8 个月Insightful as always Deborah - love the witty ditty re Sara! ??
Great, upbeat article. In terms of productivity, I try different things depending on what my day is looking like. Sometimes I wake up just knowing I'll only be able to focus for short times (Pomodoro for the day) or want to tackle something bigger (Time Blocking). Your bit about photos....oh yeah. The reasons for not liking our photo taken is often irrational and packaged up in years of growing up seeing different messages from our family, friends and the media. But like you say, you are only you today, so if you have a photo session booked, be present and don't think about negative experiences with the camera in the past. You'll not believe how just a change of mindset during just a photo shoot makes the difference between a good and great set of pictures.
