As we approach the start of the annual Edinburgh Festival I though it an appropriate time to ask, "Does Edinburgh and Scotland make enough of hosting the World's Largest Arts Festival every August?" As the Edinburgh Festival Fringe celebrates its 70th birthday could more be done to encourage international festival goers to visit and enjoy more of Scotland and it's amazing scenery and attractions?
In 2016, the Fringe spanned 25 days and featured 50,266 performances of 3,269 shows in 294 venues. Very impressive numbers, but how well known across the world is the Fringe and the other associated events, including the International Festival, the Book Festival and the world famous Military Tattoo? Is Edinburgh truly recognised across the world for being the world's largest arts festival?
As our Arbikie drinks business hosts our own Edinburgh Festival fringe venue, 'The A Club' for the second year it is something that has struck me as newcomers to this arena. We're very lucky to have an amazing central Edinburgh venue at The Merchants Hall and hopefully we're offering something a little different with our focus on music and in creating a relaxing environment to enjoy our high-end cocktails and food.
I'm sure this year will be the biggest Festival ever, both in terms of acts and visitor numbers so a lot is being done right, but what can be done to spread the success across the rest of Scotland and to ensure that the whole country benefits from this amazing, annual phenomena?
