EDGNEX by DAMAC Invests €400M in Madrid for Data Centre

Edgnex Data Centers by DAMAC , a global digital infrastructure provider under the DAMAC Group , is making strides in its international expansion with the acquisition of prime land in Madrid, Spain.

This strategic investment marks a major milestone in the company's journey to strengthen its presence in key global markets and cater to the growing demand for high-quality digital infrastructure.

A New Data Center in Madrid

The newly acquired site in the Vicalvaro region of Madrid will house a 22,000m2 data center facility, boasting a committed power of 40MW.

The center is set to begin operations by 2026, positioning EDGNEX as a crucial player in Madrid's data center ecosystem. This expansion comes at a time when the Madrid market is gaining recognition outside the established FLAPD markets (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin).

As one of the fastest-growing digital hubs in Europe, Madrid offers a vibrant data center landscape, highlighting the region's potential for future growth.

Strategic Location and Connectivity

EDGNEX’s data center will be located just 10 kilometers from Madrid International Airport and 5 kilometers from the Internet Exchange, offering exceptional regional connectivity.

This prime location enhances Madrid’s capacity to support hyperscalers and enterprise clients, enabling them to expand their availability zones. With access to advanced high-performance computing and AI capabilities, the center is poised to become a preferred destination for businesses focused on innovation and digital growth.

The facility’s cutting-edge infrastructure is designed to meet the evolving needs of digital enterprises.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

Hussain Sajwani , Founder of DAMAC Group, says, “We plan on investing €400m in our first 40MW investment in the Spanish Data Centre space. Spain’s advanced connectivity, strategic location and commitment to renewable energy make it an ideal hub for expanding our high-performance infrastructure. Alongside looking at additional investments in Madrid, we will look for opportunities in strategic locations such as Barcelona, Zaragosa and other locations in Spain.”

With 60% of Spain’s power already sourced from renewable energy, EDGNEX is committed to minimizing environmental impact through eco-conscious design and development. This project is a reflection of DAMAC’s broader vision to provide scalable, efficient, and environmentally responsible digital infrastructure globally.

Moreover, the investment in Madrid is seen as the first of many. DAMAC is exploring additional opportunities in Spain, particularly in cities like Barcelona and Zaragoza. The company aims to contribute to Spain’s sustainability and digital economy while simultaneously addressing the rising demand for robust data infrastructure.

Boosting Competitiveness and Job Creation

Tarun Tyagi Senior Vice President of DAMAC, International Business, adds, “Our data centres have tremendous potential to enhance the country’s competitiveness by providing businesses with scalable digital infrastructure, driving innovation, sustainability and job creation. This site is one of the few prime locations in Madrid with secured, fully redundant power available within two years from two independent substations, ensuring rapid deployment in a market facing significant demand-supply challenges.”

This feature is critical in a market facing demand-supply challenges, and the new facility will meet these needs while driving job creation and fostering technological innovation in the region.

Expanding EDGNEX’s Global Footprint

The Madrid data center is part of EDGNEX’s broader European and global expansion strategy. Following recent developments in the Middle East and Turkey, and announcements in regions such as Bangkok and Indonesia, EDGNEX aims to solidify its presence in key markets, including the APAC region.

EDGNEX is positioned to create long-term value for its clients while contributing to global digital transformation by delivering high-capacity, sustainable, and cutting-edge data centre solutions.
