Edging closer to a recession, everyone can't be ASHWATHAMA in career path. Let's face it

We all know what happened in 2008. Recession loomed over the US that impacted many business in India. We know the fact that whenever US sneezes, the world catches a cold. Future scenario based on current trend do not seems hard to analyze. Could a similar situation loom on the horizon?

Many companies believe in massive layoffs as part of their cost cutting measures in such situation resulting in a chunk of laid off employees with empty wallet. This can happen to anyone with any experience or skills. Everyone can't be Ashwathama of corporate world.

Looking at positive side, this is the right time to rediscover yourself and your passions. I know that the free time you get isn’t ideal but trust me this can be blessing in disguise. The going may be tough, but it's through hardship that we discover our paths and get set back on the right track.

Hence, in order to bring some positive insight I have mentioned below some misbelief or myth comes to our mind while searching a new job along with the real scenario or truth.

Myth: During a recession all employer decides to stop any new recruitment

Truth : There is always need to hire people as a result of vacancies due to re-structuring or natural employee churn

Myth : If you are a laid Off employee, No one will hire

Truth : Layoffs are a fact of life and businesses realize that.If you're laid off, you have to work even harder to market yourself to potential employees

Myth : You'll have to adjust with less take home salary

Truth : Searching a job during a recession doesn't mean any pay cut but a natural negotiation with HR that we do in normal scenario. Just demonstrate why you'd be a valuable asset to the company and how your unique skills/experiences will make you the best fit for the role.

Very well written article Amit!!! Lay off should not be taken as negative connotation for anyone!!! It is the situation and context which lead to this problem and hence one should demean the quality of that person!!! This can happen to anyone and therefore one should utilize the time to build and refresh his or her knowledge!!! The kind of projects you are involved in, I m sure this will help you to take much bigger role soon!!! wishes you all the best!!!????
