#EdgeBytes4 covers the Edge use cases.
About Edge Computing, it is often said that use cases are limited by your imagination. However McKinsey has nicely covered 100+ use cases in this article. This is the best resource to kick start the Edge use case identification journey.
In absence of any killer use case, There are 2 primary areas which are in focus.
Currently various eco system partners are coming together for enabling the platform where anyone can come and host their applications. AWS Wavelength service is true example of that.
Q. What is AWS Wavelength?
AWS Wavelength zones are Availability zones which are inside telco network. These wavelength zones are connected to main region and offer some of the AWS services. Primary use case of wavelength zone is to provide local breakout capabilities so that low latency and real time use cases can be hosted here.
Q. Is there any Killer Use case?

No. Industry experts and thought leaders have an opinion that industry should make edge native applications development very simple (like- cloud world) so that more and more applications are quickly developed and some of these applications become the killer use case.
Edge as a service is great use case that is envisioned by several players in this area. Several experts believe that isolated business use of Edge computing might be challenging so initially all such offerings would be bundled with other services like- 5G.
Q. What is Edge Native application?
Edge Native applications are extension of Cloud Native application and these are aware of location and latency. So basically applications are moving to network aware application.

3 年Thanks Abhinivesh Jain for sharing. As we see technology creeping in and overtaking our personal space, it is also important for humans to ensure inter-dependency with it, especially wearables. Interestingly the use cases shared by McKinsey (albeit a bit old) are not propagating the leaps made in nano-tech and its integration. It will be very interesting to see when (and not how) the Edge takes over data centres, core apps in other sectors. Teleco's and connectivity will obviously be integral for all the entire enablement.
