Myth Busters
NLP is manipulative ? nope for us it is about influence… so here’s the difference
Manipulation- is defined as “having control over others by having the ability to influence their behaviour (emotions) and their actions. Umm doesn’t sit well with our approach here at Edge NLP
Influence - has many elements. It’s based on strong rapport, clear and congruent communication, and awareness and understanding of others. Sounds better right? For us NLP is about wanting what is best for others in their “sphere of influence.”
Is NLP Mind Control ? – err nope – it is however about you learning to take control of your thoughts.
NLP works from the starting point that you may not control much in your life, but that you can always take control of what goes on in your head. Your thoughts, feelings and emotions are not things that are, or that you have, but things that you do. Where they come from can often be very complicated, involving, for instance, beliefs from your parents or teachers, or events that you have experienced.
NLP shows you how you can take control of these beliefs and influences. Using techniques such as visualisation, you can change the way that you think and feel about past events, fears and even phobias -it’s a do with not a do to process.??
Is NLP Stagnant? Depends who is delivering it ??
NLP has been around for over 40 years, Developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the late ’70’s. It might be said that it doesn’t incorporate new learnings from neuroscience, Social Psychology and other developing studies and processes. Here at Edge we would say its about how it is delivered and what else we bring to the table to enrich the NLP Journey. We include many other elements to deepen the change experience for our delegates…
Can you be NLP’ed?...err nope
The whole principle of NLP is that it is a do with process not a do to, any changes are facilitated by you and owned by you. Its about how you think and not what you think, so it stands to reason that only you know how you think and therefore only you can change it. With careful guidance and being held in a safe space by us here at Edge NLP
