The way cloud computing is expanding and bringing with it new innovations around Edge Computing. I remember an Indian advertisement about Fogg perfume?“Aaj-kal kya chal raha hai? Fog chal raha hai”.
Edge computing and fog computing are often used interchangeably because both bring intelligence and processing closer to the source of data. Edge processing makes a stronger case now that 5G networks have increased the number of connected mobile devices and IoT devices.
Patterns related to data management (covering security and data sync approaches), Implementation patterns for gateway solutions, etc., must be adapted for seamless edge computing. For example, allowing edits when the edge isn't connected to the cloud significantly increases the complexity of configuration management. Secondly, If the cloud datastore is the single source of truth, then the edge workloads should be able to restore intended states by using automated processes. These scenarios should be considered within the implementation design for smooth edge computing.
There is no doubt that connected devices create vast amounts of untapped data that can be harnessed by edge computing and provide our customers with faster, more reliable, and consistent service.
