EDGAR: Having Trouble Displaying Graphics

As reflected by activity in our “Q&A Forum” last night (#8505), the SEC’s EDGAR has been broken for a few days and hasn’t been able to display documents filed with graphics properly. I heard that graphics in some filings do display but are distorted, whereas graphics in other filings do not appear at all. I believe there are no legal ramifications as this is an SEC dissemination issue and it affects all filers.

That problem now seems fixed (although you should check if you make a filing) – but documents filed between August 3 and August 5 still may not display the graphics properly. My beef is with transparency – whenever there are problems with EDGAR, you only hear about them through the grapevine. The SEC Staff doesn’t have a spot on their site where they list issues or outages. Seems like an easy fix to make – maybe add an EDGAR blog to the SEC’s site…

Your point is exactly right. We told clients both as a proactive FYI but also as a defensive "it's not us." A simple disclosure from them - pun intended - would ease stress for all parties.
