I came across this article from last year. I think it is even more relevant now that ever.
My Manager, who is one of the most motivational people I have ever worked for, had us all watch the John Lewis Advert before our conference call this morning (last year). He wanted us to discuss the possible message behind the advert. It created a healthy and positive discussion about diversity, kindness, skills sets, patience and understanding. This positive discussion reminded me that we all need to take a step back sometimes to recognise the skills and abilities of people, to make the most of them but above all to reach out and be kind to people

Excitable Edgar the dragon – what’s the message behind the festive tale really about?
The two-and-a-half minute clip stars Edgar, a dragon who can’t contain his excitement for Christmas – or his instinct to breathe fire.
During the ad, Edgar can be seen getting into all sorts of calamities including melting an ice rink and destroying a snowman.
Worried that he’s ruining Christmas for his entire village, an upset Edgar decides to lock himself away.
But his friend, a little girl named Ava, comes to the rescue and finds him the perfect present for his fire breath – a Christmas pudding.
The sweet meaning of the advert is that nobody should be left out, especially at Christmas - and we need to be accepting of all our differences.
The ad ends with the strapline: “Show them how much you care."
“The magic of friendship and making our loved ones feel special, are some of the most wonderful things about this time of year.
“The Christmas pudding in the final scene is not just the showpiece of a spectacular feast which brings all the villagers together.
“It’s a reminder that a thoughtful gesture - whether that’s a delicious meal or a special gesture can mean so much.”
