EDDS – The Alternative to EDTA

Natrlquest E30?(INCI: Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate => EDDS) is a synthetically produced chelating agent which is extracted from the amino acid L-aspartic acid. It is a good alternative to conventional EDTA, as it has the best performance among biodegradable chelating agents.

Anti-oxidant action

The trapping of heavy metals in cosmetic products is particularly important if they contain oxygen-sensitive ingredients. That’s because metal ions in combination with oxygen can oxidise sensitive ingredients such as natural fats, oils, and fragrances. For example, the rancid smell of vegetable oils can be triggered. Natrlquest E30 reduces this negative odour formation by supporting the stabilisation of the products.

Preservative enhancer

Natrlquest E30 is not a preservative per se, but it can strengthen preservatives so that they can be used in lower concentrations. It is assumed that the removal of Ca/Mg by EDDS creates holes in the bacterial wall through which the preservatives can penetrate better.

Good for the environment

Because the chelating agent Natrlquest E30 is biodegradable, it can easily be integrated into eco-labeled formulations. Natrlquest E30 also fulfills all the criteria of the European Eco-Label (EU Ecolabel), the German Blue Angel, and the Nordic Swan.

Market success

Within the last ten years, the share of finished products containing Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate on the global market has increased from 100 to over 1000*. Shampoos, body, and face care products account for the largest share. If you too would like to formulate with Natrlquest E30, we will be happy to provide you with suitable sample formulations such as the??Luxurious Foaming Shower Mousse?.
