Ed3 Weekly Issue #127: Are You Skilled?
Hello Ed3 Community,
Ever heard any of these phrases?
All of these refer to the idea of improving skills or taking one's abilities to the next level. What I observe in a fast-changing world is that these skills are constantly evolving—sometimes faster than our ability as educators to teach them.
I often ask myself what this will look like as blockchain explodes into a $1.4 trillion market by 2030 (source: Grand View Research).
A major reason I put this newsletter together every week is so educators can start reflecting on this, too.
How do we prepare young people for this massive, potentially multi-trillion-dollar industry? Will the jobs we see today still exist in 5, 10, or 50 years?
If the past is any indication, the answer is yes and no. These jobs will still exist, but they will probably look very different.
My prediction is that blockchain adoption will hyper-accelerate change, making many of tomorrow’s “low-level” service jobs resemble the “tech” jobs of today.
As AI implementation becomes widespread and digital systems become enabled by blockchain technology, the idea of being technologically illiterate will become obsolete.
Like the milkman, the ice cutter, or the pinsetter at the bowling alley, there are jobs today that will no longer be necessary.
This week, I invite you to explore some aspects of the blockchain future that will exist and become part of the $1.4 trillion blockchain reality in the next five years.

As educators, we’re often told we need to prepare young people for a world that doesn’t exist yet. My usual response is, “Well, that’s impossible.” However, this article offers a starting point for building a world where young people are equipped with the skills they’ll need to thrive in a blockchain-enabled future.
The article highlights that most current blockchain jobs are in areas like data management and similar fields. But in the future, other roles in sales, marketing, HR, communications, and business administration will likely be tokenized and require blockchain expertise.
While we may not be able to fully prepare young people for an unknown future, I believe we can help shape the world they’ll live in. As educators, part of our responsibility is to equip students with the skills needed to build that future. Beyond just technical knowledge in fields like marketing or human resources, my goal is to foster evergreen skills—empathy, resilience, and critical thinking—that will be crucial as the next generation upskills in a blockchain-driven world.
