Ed's presentation recounts how Henry Flagler transformed Florida from America’s final eastern frontier to an economic powerhouse. From Jacksonville to Key West, Flagler connected world class resorts by railroad. Even more, his transportation system included steamship lines, canals, and harbor improvements; all built to support tourism, agribusiness, and residential growth. Henry Flagler's impact on Florida is greater than anyone else in the state's history. His money, vision, and energy changed Florida's east coast from remote to resort and earned him the title of The Father of Modern Florida.

Ed Lamont has served as a docent at WHITEHALL - the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum in Palm Beach since 1991. He's led over 2,500 tours into America’s Gilded Age at WHITEHALL and was recognized as the museum’s 2001, 2006, and 2007?Interpretive Docent of the Year. Ed leads historical tours of the Breakers Hotel, gives art gallery talks at the Society of the Four Arts, and facilitates book discussions at the Gioconda & Joseph King Library in Palm Beach.
